Hi All,

My V6 Coupe seems to vibrate slightly when stopped at the red light. I can feel it with my foot on the brakes and also from the steering wheel. Is this normal ? I mean it's not a muscle car so I didn't expect that. I just wanted to make sure so I don't worry.... Thanks

Vibrating as in rough idle? If so, it may be a loose or bad MAF sensor. I had a throttle body port and polish done on my old SE-R and when I installed it, I forgot to plug the MAF sensor back and it idled rough. Go check under the hood to see if that's the culprit.

The MAF plug and connection will look like this along the air filter tube:

The black connector plug just to give you a better idea of what it will look like:

it's just a slightly rough idle, unoticable if you dont have your foot on the brakes. It's my first time owning a Nissan so i'm just wondering cuz my toyotas didn't do that I'll check on that pix, if not i'll ask them when I take it in for the 1000 mile safety check .. thanks

Well i took my car to the dealership over the weekend and they ran a few diagnostic tests and found everything working properly, nothing wrong. I just hope it's part of the car breaking in and doesn't cause any trouble in the future. i guess there is no need to worry. 2,600 k milage. Thanks!

mine is approaching the 1000 miles mark very soon. Prolly this weekend I'll take it in for that 1000 mile safety check and ask them about it. Hopefully it's just part of the break in process ........ Still hate the seat rattling

I've never heard of that. Does only your dealer offer that?

What dealer is that? Please don't say Douglass Nissan. And did you have to buy your car their for that? Or do they do that for everyone?

hey, was about to update this thread I took it to the dealer on saturday, they used a computer and readjust the idle. It seemed to help a bit. But I guess it is a Nissan thing cuz when the shuttle guy drove me back to my house I touched the wheel and I can feel the same vibration. It's my first Nissan so I'm just a bit paranoid cuz my Camry didn't do that. It seems a bit more quiet now.

Could have gotten a bad tank of gas. Do you go to the same place to fill up?

I filled up at 76 most of the time. The first tank the dealer put it in I had no idea where or what. My 2nd fill up didn't help much. Whatever it is, hope it's gone for good

True, the type of gas you use may be the cause. You said it was 76, which is listed as a top tier gas, but who knows. Try using only top tier gas for the next couple fill ups and see if that helps.

I have had a similar problem with my 3.5 coupe also. When I come to a stop or red light, the idle drops and the car vibrates a little erraticaly; not so much when the air is on though. I went in for the 3rd time to NIssan to have them fix the problem, but they said they put it on their computer and everything checks out fine. Well it's NOT fine! I love this car and it is brand new so I expect it to idle like glass. My Honda accord 2001 idled so smooth you couldn't feel it.

Now the Manager is meeting with me this week to see what they can do about it. The sales guys were telling me it could be under the 'Lemon Law', but I don't think the car is a lemon, it just needs some minor tweeking. Maybe the computer needs to be replaced. I will update you all when the verdict is in.

maybe it's just a Nissan thing to not have very smooth idle too?

Just bump the idle up 100 rpms and it will smooth out. It could just be a resonance issue in the motor mounts or something odd. I doubt it has anything to do with your engine or break in or fuel. MAF is possible, but again, unlikely. Try notching the idle up a little bit and see what happens.

I'll be pissed if that 's the case!!

You would think that the Nissan mechanics would know to do that, bump the idol up. But they just keep putting it on the computer saying it all checks out.

Again, I will update on the outcome.

But I DO LOVE this car!!!

Slight vibration when a car is stop and idling isn't unusual. My sister's Camry does it all day long. And various rental Corollas I have seen also have similar vibration when stopped.

It'll be hard to actually fix such a problem. Does it get better if you put the car into neutral? If so then it is most likely just the atypical idle vibration that happens to a lot of auto cars.

SHouldn't be that way on a brand new car. It is better in neutral, but when the idol drops, it vibrates up and down, you can feel it in the seat. It is not like a 'steady' vibration. It is irratic, but subtle.

Like I said in my previous post, none of the other cars I have had did this.

PLUS, I did go to the dealer and drive the exact car, 3.5 coupe, and it idled smoothly and steadily. So that just prooved my point........at least to me!! My car needs a little tweeking!

We shall see today when I meet with the service manager.

Let me first start by saying that I have been a Technician @ a Nissan dealership for almost 5 years and have a pretty widespread knowledge of Nissans in general, i am not claiming that i know everything, i never will. but i am willing to help out with some of your technical questions....

You guys are talking about, "bumping up the idle a little bit" and unfortunatly that is not something that can be done. with all of the various computer controlled systems on the newer cars (i.e. Drive by Wire, etc). There is no way to "bump the idle up" or control in any way what the idle is set at. The only thing that the dealer can do to effect the idle at all is whats called an "Idle Air Volume Relearn Procedure" which insure that the idle is set to the factory determined specs, but there is no ADJUSTMENT persay.

Thanks for your input. That is exactly what the Service Manager told me yesterday when I dropped off my car. He said it could be any of a number of things including the actual computer on the car that needs to be replaced. He was really certain that they would fix the problem and that he would get a special mechanic in if his guys couldn't. AND he thanked me for giving them another shot at it.

I will update you all as soon as I find out what they have to say.
