Here is the update from Nissan as of last night:

They are telling me everything checks out, but that I got contaminated fuel. They took a sample and that is how they found out. Today they are going to put some kind of neutralizer in the tank and see if it helps.

I asked the Manager if they had felt the vibration, and he said no. I told him that you need to drive it for a few blocks to see. Oh well.

Then he said if it is not the fuel , it could be some other part breaking down.

I will be a wreck when I get the car back and it still does it's thing!

I will update on the outcome.

i can almost guarantee that the dealership didnt take a sample of the fuel and analyze it. the neutralizer that they are going to throw in the gas tank is probably just a can of BG44K! they didnt notice anything and probably just think you are a Pain in the *** customer that doesnt know what theyre talking about. i hate it when the service writers treat customers like that. they need to actually invest the time in finding the problem and the fix for that problem! I know in this area things are VERY slow in every dealership, i dont know if its the same there, but they should still invest the time in finding the repair for the problem and not throw a BS response at you. if i get a car in that does what you guys are talking about i WILL find the problem and let you guys know

I HAVE HAD MY 07 ALTIMA FOR 6 MONTHS. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. AFTER SITTING OVER NIGHT IT SOUNDS LIKE A DEISLE GOING DOWN THE ROAD UNTIL IT WARMS UP .THEY HAVE PUT 2 KNEW HEAT SHEILDS ON IT AND IT DID NOT FIX THE NOISE. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 2 WEEKS THIS TIME NOW THEY THINK IT IS VTC GEAR AND AT THIS TIME THEY HAVE NO FIX FOR THE PROBLEM THEY TOLD ME TO DRIVE IT UNTIL THEY FIND A FIX CAN YOU BELEIVE THAT. I ASKED THEM TO PUT A NEW MOTOR IN IT THEY WANT DO THAT OR GIVE MY MONEY BACK THEY WANT DO THAT EITHER I HAVE CALLED CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO GET BACK WITH ME..I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN NISSAN AND MY NEW ALTIMA...

Yeah, you guys get brutal!!

Anyway, I picked up my Coupe Friday after the girl at the service desk said that it was ready. No Phone call from the service manager that was going to 'MAKE SURE' the problem was taken care of. While I am at the service desk, the owner of superior Nissan remembered me and wanted to know if the problem was taken care of. OF course at this point I said I hope so but that I hadn't driven it yet. The service girl said,"oh yes the problem is gone'. She told me I need to burn the gas down to empty and to only use Chevron supreme., which by the way I DO!!

I drove my car this weekend and they didn't do **** to it just like you said. They had my car for 4 days and I am sure they just let it sit there. I am so frustrated and I feel like I just need to go directly to Nissan USA. I just need time to cool off.

I opened a file with NIssan USA. They were very understanding and said they are going to have a Regional Manager call me and take care of the problem.

So I said what if they can't and she said that they would have to work something out for me.

I am not going to let this go. I feel like because I am a women, the dealership thinks that I will just give up the fight.

They don't know who they are messing with!!!

I didnt even realize that you were a woman, that could explain why that particular dealership is giving you the run around. There are a lot of men that work in this trade that are very sexist and think women know nothing and you can just give them the run around. Good luck with dealing with Nissan USA.

Seriously though keep us posted because it seems like several people are having the same issue that you are and it would be good to finish this thread up with a solution.

Yeah it sounds like the guys that you are dealing with at your dealership are the kind of guys that see an attractive blonde and think she is the typical "blonde" that is so unfortunate. i like to think our service advisors treat our customers fairly. i know the wouldnt do stuff like the way youre being treated.

The girl from Nissan North America called me and I now have an appointment at a different Nissan dealership with a technician that is supposed to ACTUALLY drive with me in the car to see what I am talking about. She said that the dealerships are franchised so they should deal with this in a different way.

I will bring it in on Tuesday morning and will update you all on the outcome.

Thanks for all of your input!!

It sounds like they are handling it pretty well. Sometimes i SWEAR cars have a mind of their own. I know the majority of customers are not crazy and hearing things or imagining noises, but i have gone on numerous test drives with customers, and there is not a single noise at all! i know it is frustrating for both people. The customer whose car now doesnt make a noise, and the honest mechanic that actually wants to fix the car!

So here is the update:

Same ol, same ol: Everything on my car checks out WITH the Nissan specs, doesn' mean that Nissan specs are right though. I did get better and more personalized treatment at Woodland HIlls Nissan though. The tech actually explained to me some things. He did see that the idle dropped, but he is telling me that is how the computers are set and they are so advanced as to responding to the moisture etc. OK?? So I told him I wanted him to drive with me in another 3.5 coupe. SO they pulled one up(it already had over 500 miles on it) and it was worse than mine idling. Even the tech said that it was. He basically said that is just how those cars are, but if it gets worse they will need to do something.

When I was picking up my paperwork, there was another tech standing there and he said,"You're here for the idle problem, right? Nissan is having a problem with that on those cars and they told us that they were looking into it." He said that I should keep checking back because there would be an update to the computers.

WEll, that was interesting since the other tech told me Nissan had no problems reported on the idle.

I am trying to contact Nissan North AMerica again and I have gotten ahold of a Lemon Law attorney.

The thing is, I WANT my car, I LOVE this car, but I don't want it to idle rought when it stops. FOr GOD sake, it only has 2600 miles on it!! I bought it SEpt 2nd!!!

P.S. AND the techs at WH nissan said it had NOTHING TO DO WITH GAS!!!!

I will update asap

So Far, no happy ending.

I got the complete run around from Nissan NA. Did everything they said and then they had a new rep call me. She called my original dealership and wants me to wait to hear from them when their special TECH comes in. So far no phone call AND when I call Nissan NA, they don't even know who that women was.

Does any body else have this problem with engine vibration or rough idle???

I am on the road to lemon law.

i just got done replacing timing chain components on a 2005 quest for a "whining noise" sounded almost like a supercharger whine. The 3.5L motor has one big timing chain and then each head has an individual timing chain that goes around one gear on the intake camshaft and one gear on the exhaust camshaft, and then teh same thing on the other head. the vtc (variable valve timing) sprocket has teeth on it that connect to the smaller chain as well as the big main timing chain. if that makes sense, im not sure if im explaining it well enough. well the timing chain tensioner on one of those smaller chains wore all the way through to metal, as opposed to the metal chain riding on the teflon guides. not that this is related, but just thought id share. this customer NEVER went to the dealership, not for recalls or ANYTHING, no reciepts for oil changes AT ALL, and he still got all of this work covered under warranty, so this goes to show, not ALL dealerships give people the run around like that.
