Hey guys, working on brainstorming an idea for a project build for work. I want to get some ideas from everyone.

What would be a cool car you'd like to see built with an engine swap? We're thinking we want to use a VR38 into something older. I'm not sure exactly the budget yet, but for the sake of keeping things in line, lets say the whole thing has to be done for under $100k (car & engine included). It was suggested maybe a VR38 into an KPGC10, but I'm not sure we can do that and make it clean for under $100k with the rising prices of C10's lately.

Any ideas? It doesn't even have to be Nissan. Just trying to come up with something that hasn't been done yet, or not very common. Doesn't have to be the VR38 either, but that might be a cool engine to showcase some parts on.

The VR38 into a silver/black second gen Corvette would be pretty awesome.

I kinda always wanted to see a small displacement 4 cylinder into the 2nd or 3rd gen F bodies. Loads of room under the hood to work with and would be fun to roast the v8's and pay some homage to what the 'iron duke' 4 cylinder should've been.

If I was going to put that engine in anything it'd be a Datsun 810.

Nice! That's actually a pretty good suggestion. Right in lines of what we're looking for.

There is no love for the 810. It's sad. :tisk: Build it, change the game!

*Edit* BTW, It also comes in wagon flavor.

A first gen Maxima *is* an 810. Just depends on the year as for what it badged as.

We want to make something cool. 2 wrongs don't make a right. If we're going to do that, we may as well do an A14 swap into a Suzuki Swift. Just because.

On the flip side, a VR38 into a bugeye WRX would be a lot of fun. (apparently I have too much Subaru in my brain at the moment).

Yeah...definitely don't have a multi-million dollar budget for this. I also don't want death threats for ruining a 2000GT.

HAHAHAHAHA......that would be hilarious.

But on a real note, 1) R34's aren't legal to import and 2) L28 isn't a good motor for us to showcase new products on. (We deal mostly with newer, current model stuff).

1. How 'bout a manual transmission swap in a Cube....? oh wait... j/k.

2. How stuffing a GT-R motor into a 370/350Z with a manual transmission? What every true Nissan enthusiast wants, a powerful sports car with a man-pedal and without so many idiot-proofing nannies.

True. Just a little more hassle is all. Plus, that's a pretty expensive car. Leaves us less room in the budget for fabrication.
Plus, that's just a bad swap idea for our purpose, like I mentioned.

He'd get a cease and desist signed by Carlos Gohsn himself for that one.

So far the 810 or 370Z are probably our top pics. 370Z I think would be cooler, but it could also be much more difficult with the electronics. Very good idea though, we might have to look into that.

I figured since the 370 has been around a long time,is still in production, and Nissan already crammed that motor into a Juke, a swapped Z with Corvette like performance might generate more buzz than a 35 yr old Datsun. Do I get a cookie if it happens?

If we end up doing that build, I'll send you a whole box of cookies.

Now you gotta add a box of cookies to the build cost of the 370. Isn't even off paper and it's getting more expensive. Yup, it's a Nissan.
