Anyone have info on installing a chevy 350 into a 240sx? I haven't found much out there about doing this, just thought you guys might know. Thanks...

Unless you have MUCHO $$$$$ or are able to fab your own parts, don't try it.

Personally, I'd LOVE a 383 in my 240 :) I almost regret not trying it...it would have been WAY too much fun and probably about the same price as my KA-T if I only did a mild buildup on the 383. (for you non-chevy talkin folks, a 383 is just a bored and stroked 350, same block and everything).

If I was gonna spend the time to swap in a huge v8, why not go all the way with something that makes REAL power? ;) MOPAR is the only way to go... 426 hemi or 440 6-pack would be a real kick in the pants.. :D The only problem is where to find them..

would it be easier/cheaper to drop in the 300zx engine? non-turbo.........than just build that up

its been done. i saw a 240sx with a carbed small block 350 for sale on ebay a while ago. There is also a lt1 powered 240sx (limecreekmotorsports) and a 5.0 swap running around in the usa. From what i gather, expect to massage the firewall with a Big ****ing Hammer and manufacture your own mounts and drive shaft. Not to mention wiring and the totally screwed weight distribution. I think i still have pictures of all of them somewhere.

I have the engine, I got it for $250.00, whole thing. All I need is the mount kit, wirring kit, 300zx rear, and the shaft welded into the 240's. Just wondering if anyone has info on the install.

if you go with a 5.0 it doesnt weight that much more than the ka. if you relocated the batt to the rear it would be very very close to stock

aries has already done the 350 swap, ask him, he'll tell ya. It looks sweet, the 300zx v6 looks to be a bit harder, but quite possible chandler

Yeah, ive actually done the numbers on this and it is pretty close. even closer if you get an aluminum race block, Al heads, etc. The real problem is that the weight is a bit forward due to the length of the engine and the mass that sits in front of the front tires. the F/R weight might be close but I guess you would have to drive it to see if the extra mass in front of the wheels would make a noticeable difference. I think it would but I've never driven in a car with this kind of setup.

Originality (relative), Speed, and Handling would be my guess.

a stock ka24de is about 540 lbs. a small block chevy with aluminum heads is about 535. Add or subtract 50-100 lbs for AC/emissions (ha!)/misc junk. come to think of it the transmission is gona factor in too, although its more in the center of the car so im not sure how much it would factor in.I would love to see a head to head between a stock or sr powered car and a v8 powered car on everything from skid pad to, slalom and drag. thats the only way to see how much the weight issue changes the behavior of the car.Maybe we can just strap an extra 100 lbs to the hood of someones car and run it :)

I'll volunteer my body for science! We can just duct tape me to the hood...210 lbs. of Nathan to see what the weight does :)

A Nathan hood ornament! That's gangsta...

What about a turbo SB 3800? That shouldn't weight that much more than a stock KA. The swap shouldn't be that much, custom mounts, driveshaft, stand alone ecu. Torque alone should be so worth it. Custom mounts for my Blazer's V8 only ran $100 made. Firewall bet-back was free by me and the driveshaft was $150. Not to shabby.

I agree, I dont think the swap (either small block or that 3800) wouild be all that expensive. I'm certain I could get mounts done relatively affordably by making cardboard templates of them, then having the local welding shop fab them up...especially not if I provided the steel. Who thinks a 540 block would fit in my engine bay?

Yes, handling. Ever tried a road course or AutoX in a Camaro? It's and awful thing.

Ford 5.0 V8 (171) 89 Mustang 5.0 GT (dry) inc:manifold, carb(?), headers and alternator. Not inc: starter, smog pump, power steering pump, AC compressor, flywheel

so with everthing we are looking at ~550 to 580 all accessoriesand i have a 5.0 sitting in my garage from my mustang before i sold it. its about 3 inches longer than the KA. the distrib is in the front (unlike chevy) so you can rest it damn near the fwall.

why would you do it?lighten it up with alum heads, save 40 lbs a a head, so it goes down to, if not *below* KA weight. stock 225 horsies.doubtful it will stay stock for long though. =Pbelieve me ive thought about doing it more than once

Bah, if your going to put a V8 in a 240sx, at least make it a VH41DE or VH45DE. None of that pushrod crap :D
