So, I'm out doing some spirited driving on a back road today. Car's running strong at about 17 psi. I stop and decide to drive back. On the way back, I floor it. At around 3000 rpm all I hear is a big zipping sound coming from where the turbo's at. It didn't build much boost, but I didn't hold it too long there either. If I keep the car from boosting, I don't hear this sound, but if I floor it, all I gets a loud zipping sound. I hope my turbo's not shot. BTW, I opened up the the intake side of the turbo and the blades are spinning freely. I do hear a lot more rattling from the turbo than before though.

Sounds like your turbo may be coming loose from your manifold. Its a very common problem on the SRs, they make all sorts of weird noises, Ive heard squeels, rattles, buzzes and hisses.

Thanks for the replies. All hoses are tight and turbo is not loose from the manifold. When I first notice this problem, I pulled over and popped the hood. I pulled up on the throttle cable and saw some blue smoke come out from behind the turbine. Also, if I hit tap full throttle for about a second, I can see that it won't build boost. When I let off the throttle and the turbo settles back down there is a grinding noise coming from the turbo. I'd prefer it not be the turbo, but if it is, then it'll be time for a GT2871R!!

Yeah, I'm not so heartbroken about it because I already know what the replacement will be if it is the turbo. My wife on the other hand ....let's just say I'll need to be real nice to her for the next couple of weeks.

not sure what your setup is but it could be the exhst manifold gasket or, the manifold itself could be cracked, i had the same problem. it was an xs power manifold and it cracked from getting too hot. very small cracks but still made a huge hiss noise and not so much power. but yeah check it out, good luck
