Amsoil and Mobil 1 are said to be the best synthetics made. Some think mobil 1 < amsoil some think mobil 1 > amsoil. With either oil you cant go wrong. Please stay away from additives. The top name oil companies go through alot of R&D to make the additive packages in their oils, so dont mess with them by using additvies... If you can afford it Motul makes a very good oil but its very expensive anywhere from $8-$25 a quart. Its very important to use a good quality oil filter to, not a POS fram one.

Are you talking about motor oil or gear oil?

Also, what kinda engine are you running? Freshly rebuilt or an older engine that was turbocharged late in its life?

I use Aunt Jamima. Nice and thick.

J/K.

Like posted above, stay away from FRAM filters. I've been using a WIX filter for a while and I've been pretty happy with it.

Whats soo wrong with Fram filters? I use the Heavy duty fram filter and Mobil 1 Synthetic in my 92 celica, and have put 85,000 miles on it with zero problems. The car has 198,000 miles and still runs great. It is a Toyota tho.

FRAM filters are notorious for dropping pressure at low rpm. While there's not much requirement for decent oil pressure at idle, I still like to see at least 18psi. Lots of cars see more like 8-10psi at idle.

80% of all the filters made are built by fram...

I've used Fram for 10 years on high hp cars. I swap a new filter in between changes as well, Doubling my filtration. To cheap not to do.

15/50? I would have thought that to be too thick.

However, you've much more exp with the KA than I and I make like...220whp? hehe.

I use 10w-30 Mobil 1 synthetic and a Mobil 1 synthetic fiber oil filter. It has treated me and my engine very well over the years.

Why not? I always was told that if they didn't use it from the begining, then it would casue problems if used now. Someone clarify this?

During my a science fair project baotu 10yrs ago lol. Penzoil was the worse. It started to pop like bacon grease. Valvoline and mobil were the best ones almost a tie. and quaker state was 3rd best. This was all regular 10w-30.

Its false. People developed this assumption by putting synthetic oil in a leaky *** old engine that had been run on regular oil for so long. It leaked regular oil, but when they switched to synthetic, all the sudden the engine leaked a lot more oil.

Similar to using a glass with a crack in it, if you fill it with milk, you may have a small "ring" of milk afterward on your coaster. Fill it with water and you may have a mess. Now, is the water or the glass the problem?

You diagnose a problem, not a symptom. There are no pills for coughing, sneezing, and a runny nose, but there are plenty of pills for many illnesses that cause those symptoms.

i run castrol syntec blend. i change every 2gs and the oil has been good. i was sceptecle about going fully synthetic becuase of the seals. the drawback to blended oil is that if you need oil in an emergency you cant find it at most gas stations. i just always have a 5 qt jug in my car anyway and a spare filter. how long are you guys going between oil changes?

ohh ok true.. Now when I do my next oil change, if I want to switch to vavoline... theres still gonna be some pennsoil in the pan casue it doesn't all come out, even if I jack it up on the drivers side... does it matter if it doesn't all come out and mixed witht he new brand oil?

one mroe question... now I have been running 10w-30 oil in the car, like said above, if I do the oil change and don't get all the old oil out... and I change the filter and pour in the new sythetic oil Mobil 1 oil.. will it matter if mixes with the oil currently left in the enginesince I can't get every little bit out? Also whats a good weight to run all year long of synthetic oil? 15w-40 ? 10w-30 ? WHat brand as well. THANKS

word on the street is that Royal Purple is just overpriced garbage.

should you even use synthetic with a turbo? i've heard of people who stay away from it after slapping on a turbo (non-240sx)

SYNTHETIC ISN'T THINNER look at diesel mobil 1 20w50 as thik an normal 20w50 thee main difference is blen synthetic or not , how oil acctually gets produced(tempatures /addictives ) etcits like buying oem parts vs non oem brands . same idea but better made

i ussually run 15w40 synthetic during summer and 10w30 for spring/winter time .

and castrol mobil 1 amsoil and redsoil are all pretty good choises for synth oils.

filters i use fram double guard / no problem i did hear that oem nissan filter help with pressure while at idle better/

Best way I've heard it expalined yet...very nicely put.
