I don't understand why he didn't agree to the disassembly IF he had legal [showing VIN and mileage and date oil type filter number, etc] oil change receipts from any reputable company.

To keep warranty in effect only necessary to PROVE changes at 7500/180 days............there is a section where you are required to keep oil levels checked and full.

I agree, the dealer was not asking for anything unreasonable.

Many owners don't consider that their relativlely expensive entry level [for Infiniti] new vehicle could ever require engine replacement so they don't even bother to read and understand the warranty until it is often too late.

A DEALER PAPER TRAIL written uneraseably into the computer showing these 170-180 day visits can save your rear.

Having the exact same problem with my '05 G35 6MT. Didn't notice the problem until around 22k miles, when I heard the same knocking sound under the hood. Took it to the dealer, and said was 2+ quarts low on oil. They have started the oil consumption test, and I am now on the 2nd test. After the first 1,000 miles, I brought it in and it had burned 1 quart of oil. I'm sorry, but an engine should not burn through a quart of oil in one thousand miles (and during this first test, rarely got the engine over 4,000 rpm's). Will keep you posted, and will be interested to follow other people who are experiencing this problem as well. The dealer says if after the 3rd test, they determine that the engine is burning excessive oil, they will do a new short block (said the chances of a new long block are slim).

I guess I can be added to the list of G35 6MT owners with oil consumption issues. I bought my G35 brand new back in Sept, 1,400 miles and the engine started to rap, so I took it straight to the dealership, just find out it had a 1/2 quart of oil in it. Now maybe this is normal for a import HP engine, but I nice heads up would have been nice. I have owned HP cars in the past and never seen this kind of oil use. The dealership start the oil test and told me they would replace the engine if it continued.

The owners manual REQUIRES you to maintain the oil level to maintain the warranty.

One simple task is all that is required: check and add oil as needed. Until Nissan agrees that the engine is consumming too much oil.

Not so... at least with Nissan. We have a 1993 Nissan Quest van. The 93's and 94's came with defective exhaust manifold bolts that would break and need replacement. Big and expensive job. No recall. That sucks!
