Has anyone installed an SR before and had the trans not seem to line up correctly???

We dropped the SR in yesterday.. used the stock KA mounts (that engine was straight), but for some reason the trans just lines up a little off.. The shifter is about an inch toward the driver rather than in the center of the hole. We had a heck of a time trying to force the trans brace on.. those bolts just did not want to line up.

I'll post a picture later if I can.. but it's should be pretty easy to picture in your head.

Anyone had an issue with this before?? I just don't get it.. the mount are rubber.. so they should allow a little give... but to line up crooked??? It's not like we took the mounts off and put them on backwards or anything?

Any ideas?

I suppose it will work like this.. I'm a little concerned that the shifter will rub on the center console trying to get 1st and 2nd gear.. but it should be ok I guess..

Thanks for any input you might have.

If i recall, there is some adjustment built into the motor mounts. you can loosen the nuts and lift the engine slightly and adjust it from side to side.

Nice.. that's what I'm hoping to hear!

thanks for the input! We left the chain on the head so other than the fact that it's a pain in the neck to loosen the mount bolts.. we can lift it up and try to readjust a bit.

Here's a picture of how it sits now.

You need to keep the motor mount nuts loose untill you put the trans bracket on, which will straighten things out. Mine was like that to, just grab the end of the trans and straighten it out , make sure to keep the weight suported by a jack and or jack stand.

So we need to loosen the upper mount bolts or the lower mount bolts? We left the KA mounts in the car because one of the lower mount bolts was pretty mangled.

Would it work out ok to loosen the upper motor mount bolts and then use a cherry picker to just barely lift the weight of the engine off the mounts.. then push the trans back to straight.. then drop the engine back down and tighten the bolts back up on the mounts??

Thanks again for the input!!!

i forgot what forum I seen it on (maybe FA) but somebody proved that ka and sr mounts are not the same had pictures and everything. If I remember correctly the driver side mount is different the bolts on the ka, as in the ones that come up to the motor and down to the crossmember are inline where in a SR mount they are not inline(maybe other wat around), other people chimed in that there driver side mount at a later time completely disintegrated.

yes , the bracket that mounts to the motor on the drivers side is differant KA to SR, and to shift the engine, the nut on the bottome of the motor mount, where it ataches to the cross member are the ones that needs to be loosened

The brackets are different yes, but the mounts themselves are identical. I have a set of KA mounts in my car currently.

Seth, just loosen a nut (since I usually leave the mounts bolted to the motor, i'll say loosen the lower mount nut) and start playing the wiggle game. I find sometimes rocking the motor a few times will get things to fall in place.
