Hey I just got a universal grounding kit off of ebay. I figure while I'm doing the header, exhaust and intake might as well get a good ground. Well I did a search and came up with nothing, so I need to know what to do. I have no clue what I'm doing. :help

what do grounding kits accomplish?

a better ground will help power and throttle response since it's not trying really, really hard to get its power.

the main block attaches to the battery,

some people with new SER Spec-V's have been known to gain ALOT of lost power due to poor grounds,

The kit came with a battery seperator that goes on the battery (-), but there's a main block that has all the wires going to it and I don't know where would be a good place to put it. There has to be someone out there that has done this before.

I got the hyper ground system and noticed an immediate throttle response improvement. Try the Arospeed web site I believe the have theirs mounted to the chassis. Also stay away from the exhaust and ignition systems when installing the kit. I have got mine from the right chassis-grounding point on intake manifold-starter bolt-grounding point off of head- under brake master cylinder-horn mounting bracket left chassis.

I was thinking about mounting it there. And why not ground the ignition and exhaust? I thought that's how you got improvement was through the ignition grounding. anything else this is really helpful. As soon as I have enough info I will do it and post pics.

Ok there are 8 different wires that came with the universal kit. 4 are about 3ft long. 3 wires around 2ft. and a small one about 4 in. It also came with a big main connector and two small pieces that only connect two wires. I think all the wires is what's so confusing. How many ground points does the HKS system have?

mounting near the ignition system causes some kind of cross interference which doesn't seem to help at all and mounting near the exhaust risks burn through on the wires which could result in arcing

grounding "kits" are a total joke...

i purchased 25 feet of 4ga thin-strand wire... for $12. this is more than enough wire to totally ground any car 10 times over.

Toms right as long as you get insulated wire your good to go. Unfortunately I didn't find this out untill I bought the kit already.

Does one actually need that much grounding? Some of these kits boast using very thin strand wires since they have more surface area, but I would think you would get to a point where you no longer make a difference. I tend to think a few cheap grounding straps would do just as well. And why would you need insulation. It's a ground. It's not going to short out.

^ you are correct. thats why ground kits are ghey. just buy a couple cheap ground straps... they're actually better.

I am probably gonna pick up one of these universal kits off ebay, and while I am sure I could have improvement by putting a kit together myself with generic wire, I am more interested in the hardware/distribution block. The quality is there, especially in the soldered grounding rings which is something I'm sure I would fall short with by making a kit myself...

Just wish they weren't red...

^ you absolutely dont need the stupid distribution block.

ground everything to the chassis... thats how the battery is ground anyways.

if you really want it, you can purchase gold plated hardware and dist. blocks from any local audio shop.. they're relitively cheap as well.

Also for the large gauge terminals you dont need to solder them only crimp them... I crimp my 4 awg wires / ring terminals with a large flathead screwdriver and a hammer, by the way, and have never had a problem.

Well I have most of the ground kit on but need to know where the transmission grounding point is...I haven't had a chance to look under the car or anything....also would grounding the alternator to the central block be better?

HKS has the new circle earth system out. It is application specific and $125 from options. They are great kits, everything included, high quality parts, and you can mount them to the battery or if battery has been moved to trunk, i comes with a universal mount to chasis. all the wires are in hks purple and all metal componets are gold plated. Its a little flashy for me, but it sure will add a little pimp factor to your ride.

^ i cant stress enough how much of a waste of money grounding kits are. i can make at LEAST 10 grounding "kits" for 10 cars for $15 from high current welding wire.

Ohh come on. If someone wants to buy something, let them. Its thier money. I understand your point of view. Maybe you should make them, could make some money to buy some real performance parts.

just my op

I'm finished! and yes you can feel the difference. I put a wire on almost everything and still had three wires left. Anyways I'll try to post pic next week.

good for you. People should always do what they want to do to thier cars. I am happy for you. The reason most people say they feel a deifference is that some of the original grounds were not grounding properly due to corrosion on the copper.

Yeah one of the old ground wires that went from the cylinder head to the chasis was all rusted and a pain to get out.

Ok so here is what I did:

Central Block is on the intake manifold where the old ground wire used to be.One wire goes the the battery - and forget about the battery seperator cuz you don't need it. I slipped it on the bolt so the factory ground is still there.Another wire goes the the chasis. I put it on the bracket that holds the throttle "thing" you'll know what I mean when you see it. But it can go anywhere.I took a long wire and went to around the engine thru the top back and connected a wire to the ground bolt on the chasis that has a flat wire which connects to the head. As for the transmission ground I put in on a starter bolt. I just loosed the bolt and cut the terminal to slip in. For the block I connected it to one of the bolts of the transmission/block bracket(it holds the cover the the flywheel). And finally the last hole on the central block I connected the old ground that was there. the End...I should also mention that my 240 is AT
