Engine Choices

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

It seems the older stuff is choice to the new stuff...?
The 850 is probably the best FWD, easy solutions, no can bus like the new ones, better launches, better to work with, lower weight and easy to find parts. The newer cars got "drive by wire" TB and a lot of electrical junk, hard to tune. The only negative thing is that S60 and V70N got a better engine if you want to go big hp. The 850 engine is used up to 600hp and after that you want the newer head.

I got my 8:th 850T5 now and would not trade it for a newer. If you want to go fast, buy a 850 and if you want a nice daily driver, go newer models.Fastest 850 here ran 10.5 and fastest S60 13.2, the can bus system mess up the tuning and hard to mount a standalone.

Mike...you can't put my wife in a car with over 600whp bro...lol. So the stock 850 is more then enough. Which basically makes it the perfect car because I can just add boost and management and be done.

Putting that motor into a 200SX would be the ****.

Yeah, buy a 855 T5 225hp. Add a chip and exhaust and let your wife play with 300hp. Cheap and easy hp. Congrats to the kid btw!

Thanks and I was thinking more along the lines of 400WHP on high boost for when I drive it.

All this is conjecture of course, she has to want the car since she makes more money then I do...lol.

You only got one problem there, all US 850´s are auto´s. Weak tranny. You would need new rods, turbo, fuel pump, injectors, exhaust, IC, AFM and custom chip to reach 400whp. And a manual gearbox.Manifolds, fuel lines, head, pistons and IC pipes/hoses are ready for that power.

Yeah, the auto limit is around 350hp. That´s turbo, exhaust, chip and filter. Cheap and perfect for daily driving.

Those Volvo vids =

I think Brian mentioned the Chevy Atlas motors in this thread. They seem pretty nice. I could only find one boosted motor in a I5 Colorado. It didnt have a lot of details. Those seem kinda promising, but an I5 or I6 will prolly have more fitment issues.

I was looking for cheaper (aka VH priced) 3rd/4th gen Chevy V8s. A few sources said the 6.0L iron block truck motor only weigh 100lbs more than the aluminum 6.0L in the Trailblazer. Does that some right to yall?

im surprised no one has mentioned the sho 3.0 litre v6...thats my next swap for something (240, fc3s,maybe vip style car...es300 or something)

http://members.cox.net/rdgrauman/Healey.html

this is an awsome car imho. and the swap is pretty easy. very little machining required. and capable of revving to 8k+ with little work. i like.

oh and its good for 4-500 whp internally stock. oh and theyre super super cheap. i can get a whole taurus sho for 500 or less here.

as its sits though im finishing my sbc efi t coupe project so ill let this idea sit for a while

oh the srt-4 bolts up to the liberty manual trans. thatll be the weak link in the swap. my srt makes over 300 whp and ive got maybe 1k into the motor. stock turbo and mostly stock everything. just some fuel work and some tuning. makes full boost (22psi) at 3k rpm. so yeah. the sr is DEFINITELY better than the srt motor. but im sure we can make fun of those here right?

Here´s the crank "block" I talked about, Volvo 850. 12 main crank bolts and 18 more around them to keep the crank in place.

Got to love it! Nice to have one solid part from start, no need to make the block stronger

1989-1997 Ford thunderbird motor maybeA 210 hp (157 kW), 315 ft·lbf torque supercharged and intercooled version of the 3.8 L V6 was included in the top-of-the-line Super Coupe (SC).

Also there was a T-bird that came with 2.3 L (140 in³) turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with Ford's EEC-IV electronic engine control system. Unlike the other models, the Turbo Coupe came with a standard 5-speed manual transmission. Other improvements included a limited-slip differential (called "Traction-Lok"), larger tires and wheels, and a sportier interior complete with analog gauges.

Yes, the LQ4 motors can be had very inexpensively. I just sold a complete engine for $1200 with wiring harness and a long block for $500. They roughly weigh only 90 pounds more and have lower compression so if you want to add some boost later, you can add a bit more.

HotRod or Carcraft just made over 483HP and 450 ft lbs at the motor with a LQ4 and a carb swap. Personally, I hate seeing people go back to carbs...although its easier, its like admitting defeat in my eyes. Fuel injection has made more power over the band then carberation for years now.

The write up CarCraft did has the LQ weighing just 65lbs more then irs LSx brother and that gives the strength of an iron block. With a 408 Stroker kit this could be a NA demon or an insane FI car.

A great source for motors is http://www.lkqcorp.com

i agree with you about the carbs, but i am keeping mine carbed for now simply for cost. it was either free vs many thousands (id do it right first time)

but eventually mine will be fi with either a kit such as edelbrocks or of custom origin, havent decided yet, but itll also have forged rotating bits and two turbos as well, so for now itll have to wait.

it was really easy to tune though.....
