So far it looks like what I expected, not really worthy of the hype but still looks promising. I am really liking the new "multimedia stand". They mention it to be used as a alarm clock, and I would most definitely use it as one. A music player... eh but a clock on the go with instant weather when I wake up. Super useful. But the prices seem slightly on the ridiculous side.

Also some NEW news out of the Google camp, Droid will be the first to use FREE Sat-Nav and it has hit Garmin and Tom Tom pretty hard.

Hmm, never heard this arguement before...Is there a reason other then you are used to a flip phone? I can't really see the upside to a filp VS a slide.
93coupe wrote:and no T9. I'm not interested.
There's an app for that
numbnuts240 wrote:ehhhh, idk just yet.
I am right there with you, I love the direction the phone is going and I feel it will only get better but I will be observing from far away until the dust settles.

If Droid comes to T-Mobile then yea I will most definitely go from 20% to 60%. If you get to mess with it, make sure to write a little something on it, for video tape it etc.

A friend had a phone that was the candy bar style and was at a party. This girl Ashlynne called and asked if she could come to the party. He thought he hung up and then yelled across the room to the kid whose house we were at "Can this skank could come over? I'm just trying to beat."

His phone was still on with Ashlynne. That skank did not come over and he did not beat.

I like to know that my calls have ended just by closing the phone. Plus, flip phones are generally smaller.

he probably didn't set his options right, can't really blame the phone. besides, why would he slide the keyboard out to answer the phone? that just seems retarded.

If that is what is holding you back from the 21 century then I can dig it. I think it is a lazy way of going about doing things but yea I can understand. What I usually do it press the "End" button and yell out obscenities but yea enjoy the flip phone.

You should check out what Google has in store for Google maps and navigation in Android 2.0

I develop a little bit for the android platform and its f***in amazing, and the new Google gps in Android 2.0 is definitely going to put a hurt on all the other gps companies, especially since this will be offered free from Google.

Sorry apple your days of fooling people your phone OS is the best is really kinda numbered.

ok here is the link to the new Google maps gps

And as for pricing yeah that phone is over priced. But realize that if you get any android powered phone, you will have the exact same apps and everything, and if you feel like it you can easily flash differ flavors of android on to your platform.

You know what though, I don't feel bad for them at all.

Wow, that is so awesome. I am loving how the voice recognition actually uses Google's search engine to find what you are looking for and gives you "Did you mean" responses. HUGE thumbs up for that.

IDK, I just think that Sat nav is a legitimate service that costs allot of money to run and maintain. I do feel that they charge way to much for the individual GPS devices but I think Google is putting a strangle hold on allot of different industries with their innovations and it might cost way too many jobs. I don't think that what they are doing is bad but they are doing it WAY to quickly. Maybe it is other businesses not adapting quickly enough to come up with a solution but whoa it can't be good for certain industries.

Quotes from article...
Yahoo: Hands-on with the Motorola Droid (article) wrote:it's safe to say that Verizon Wireless hopes it has an iPhone killer on its hands with the just-announced Motorola Droid....

Before we begin, I'd like to emphasize that this is not a full review; Verizon only handed out Droid review units a matter of hours ago, so I've only had limited time to test the handset....

no final answer to the inevitable "Is it an iPhone killer?" question...
Creditability, he has none. Rip on the phone for not being an iPhone killer then tell us you can't make the statement that it is or isn't an iPhone killer. Journalism at its best.

Well first off, this whole term iPhone killer is kinda of weird.

Cause there is never going to be such thing as a iPhone killer.

Just good competition.

With WinMO 6.5 on the Touch pro2, Android 2.0 on android devices, and iPhone it just makes these phones better and better, and lets you have freedom of choice.

I for one Like Android because almost every major network now days has them, and its fully open source pretty much, so from a devs point of view to me Android rocks.

As for the iPhone well if you just want something nice and cool but don't really plan on doing much with it and have a lot of money to buy all your apps and such well to me the iPhone is more of a financial status bragging phone then anything else.

And as for WinMO6.5 it pretty damn nice too, and especially on the touchPro2 which is a sexi a** phone, but then again it is Microsoft and well I won't touch anything that either MS or Apple makes.

I like how excited the OP is about it being an alarm clock.

Every cellphone ever has had an alarm clock on it. I haven't used a regular alarm clock in years.

Word. Android's alarm clock function is really easy to use .. but it's an alarm clock so really how hard can it be? Also, my phone updates the weather several times a day (customizable), showing temp and weather alerts on the notification bar. :P

I downloaded the new version of Google Maps to my phone this morning. Works great. No reason to get an external device.

I still like my Dream better than this thing.

I hardly think Apple is "fooling" anyone. It seems like us nerds are always whining needlessly about any dominant platform whether its iPhone or Windows.

The general public wants something shiny, capable, and easy.

You guys are confusing me...

AFAIK, the phone is called "droid" and not "android"...

Nothing on the official sites is calling anything "android 2.0" or whatever, so help me out here...

Ya, the phone is called the Droid, and runs Google's Android OS, as does my phone and a host of others. Only difference is that there is an updated version of the OS, Android 2.0. The Droid is the first phone that runs AOS 2.0 from the factory, though the others can update to 2.0.

Google Maps runs on any version of Android. All of the software on the Droid can be downloaded by any phone that runs the Android OS, so it's really not that special. It all depends on what you want your phone to look like.

Android is to Google as Windows is to Microsoft.- Android is an OS that Google has developed for phones.

Android 2.0 is to Android as Windows 7 is to Windows Vista- Android 2.0 is just Google's successor to Android

Droid is the first phone to use Android 2.0. - Verizon is the first to release it- What I have heard is that the "Click" will be T-Mobile's version of the Droid.

Where things really get confusing is Chrome. Google has developed a web browser called Chrome and they are working on a computer operating system called Chrome as well.

Well the best features I already heard about and seen in most phones, except the free Navi system and the Multimedia stand. It would be a place I use to charge my phone and it would look much better then a phone lying on it's back charging with a cord coming out of it.

Imagine grabbing you "alarm clock" checking the time and weather send a text or two then use it to turn on your TV and warm up your car? Well this is the step they are going with the Droid, kinda like an all in one piece of hardware. So although I wasn't expecting it, the alarm clock feature doesn't excite me more then the direction the phone is heading.

Ah I see... It's still rather confusing.

@RCA THANKS FOR EXPLAINING IT AGAIN BUDDY!

I read a little more and other companies are calling this thing "destructive". lol, Since when do other companies get a say on what one does? You're all cut-throat money-grubbing bastards anyway, so suddenly one company makes something cool and free and they complain about it? Psshhhtt, you can suck my d!ck.

My phone has this annoying tendency to NOT end the call when I close it, but to switch to speaker. I cannot find any option regarding this that I can deselect, and it only randomly happened before I got in the habit of hitting the end call button before closing it.

Of course, my phone is possessed. It randomly decides it has no sim card and shuts off. It has also called my parents at 3am from my pocket... unfun.

My phone does all kinds of weird sh*t, like yesterday it wouldn't let me answer this one call. I opened the phone up (it's a slider) and the ringing stopped, but I kept hitting the answer button after that and it wouldn't pick up.It was a very important call.

Sometimes it freaks out and doesn't ring until the last 10 seconds of an incoming call too. Once or twice I end a call and it will hang up and then call the person back on it's own.

This all goes away after I re-start it for a few days, and then it all happens again.

rofl....most slides however WILL end the call when you close them. Like a flipphone, it has the option to disable it.
