Just to ad my 2c here:My V is an SL 6MT, and I've noticed what I thought was a burning oil smell after parking sometimes. I haven't noticed where it's coming from, but I was on the driver's side near the rear of the vehicle when I smelled it, so that would seem to support the rear left wheel theory. I mentioned it to my dealer, but he was unable to find anything during the the 3,750 service. I can't say whether he actually looked or not.I'll check it out the next time I drive for sure!

Last night, for the first time, I noticed the burning rubber smell from the driver's back wheel well. It was very strong and clearly only coming from that area, not any other wheels. I have an SL with CVT and the satellite, if that helps. Hmm. Should I call to make a service appt right away or wait for scheduled service, do you think?

It looks like it's been a couple months since most of these complaints were maid. I have a V on order and was wondering what ever came of these complaints? Is anyone else still getting the burning smells? Have any more incidents been reported or anything found to be wrong?

When did you purchase your car. As a side not, this was an isolated incident and I haven't heard of another fire.

Got the car on 12/7. Everything's been fine until now. Incidentally, I park the car outdoors so it had to be a strong smell to be that noticeable. Haven't driven it today so I don't know if it is still doing it.

My V had a burning smell, but the V didn't stick around long enough for me to find out what it was related to.

I haven't noticed any smells in a while, could have been something dropped on the muffler/exhaust line during production (someone on here reported finding soda bottles under their seat from the factory).

I did notice a gasoline smell very frequently after fill ups and that did turn out to be a fire hazard. The fill neck going to the gas tank is connected by a rubber piece with clamps or something like that. Anyway, they found the the clamps had never been installed on my V and the fill neck was dripping gas out during fill ups. That has been fixed....but I could see how sloppy assembly combined with my problem could very easily result in a fire.

As I've said elsewhere, all the problems with my V are fixed at this time and overall, I'm much more satisfied now with my car than right after I bought it.

I also had a burning smell, but it went away after a few hundred miles (I'm at 3500 now).

Ive had many brand new cars. I also park in a garage, and sometimes when I get home from work(45minute drive) As soon as I open the drivers side door I get a whiff of an odd oder. Cant put my finger on what it reminds me of yet, it has been enough of an oder to get my attention, but its defiantly there. Ill look into it tomorrow when I get off work.

I've noticed this too. I park under a carport and drive about 40-ish minutes to and from work. The smell reminds me of how my parents' new cars would smell back in the 70s and 80s when they were freshly rustproofed. My assumption (I've only got 1100 miles on the car) was that it was just the coatings and other bits burning off the engine parts. It's not strong, though, like some other folks have mentioned -- it's just, well, noticeable.

My Versa is a S 6MT.I've noticed the same smell, like burning rubber, inside the cockpit, but only while "holding" the car on a ramp, with both the clutch and the gas pedal depressed.Otherwise, no smell.I'll let the dealer know next time I'll go for the oil change.

This is from the clutch not being engaged. It smells really foul like burning credit cards right? First time I noticed this was when I was in Halifax and I needed to pull from a stop on a street that was a steep grade (Connolly St). I was so afraid that I was roll back into the truck that was 5in from my bump, that I gave it a little too much gas and let the gas out too slowly. I was stuck with the burning clutch smell for 5 minutes. Letting the clutch out too slowly or not having it engaged properly will cause the same smell.
