I've got an 89 240sx that is having problems passing smog because my Nox is high even though everything else is low. EGR is working and vacuum to it is fine. I am wondering if the egr soleniod valve could possibly be stopping the egr from working correctly. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks

If you've ever take out the stock exhaust I'd double check all the bolts.

I failed for Nox and I'm pretty sure it was because I had an exhaust leak.

how do you know the EGR is working properly? did you apply vaccuum at idle to see if it'll stall. also the line from the EBT(exhaust backpressure transducer) to the EGR usually gets ruptured so check on that.

I applied vacuum to the egr and the motor almost stalled. I have vacuum going to the egr. Something is causing my Nox to be high at 25mph. Where is the EBT? Any idea about the egr solenoid valve? Could it be causing the egr to close too soon? Thanks

I am wondering about the actual solenoid valve which is about a 10 inches towards the front of the car from where that arrow is pointing. I believe it controls when the egr gets vacuum and for how long.

yes, the egr soleniod control valve controls the vacume goin to the egr valve

For a while i was getting bad gas mileage and i was getting and the engine light was on. I riped the ecu and ran a self diagnostics and it gave me a code for the egr, so i concluded the valve wasnt opening and thus the bad gas milage and flashing engine light.

when i took a look at my car on egr soleniod control valve one of the little nipples broke off so one of the hoses were dangling and i was lucky enough to find when i was feeling around with a flash light and mirror i replaced it with a new egr solenoid control valve, plug and hoses and the dam thing started working again got my millage back up and the light went off

also when the car had the problem it wouldnt pass smog
