If you're paying to flip the tires every 5K, you might as well let them wear out faster and get new tires since the cost/time involved in mounting (in my experience) outstrips the cost of the tire. Of course you might have a few contacts that do it for cheap, but I have no such luxury. I've also had a few shops rip the bead right off the tire due to failure to lubricate everything so it's not a process I like to repeat too often.

2.) Just wanted to clarify also... my steering had too much of a tendency to return to dead center and gave an increased resistance to low speed turns.
1.) Maybe so, but it adds 5K to the life of the tire, and more importantly for rain and hydroplaning, it maintains a uniform tread depth across the tire.

2.) Sorry, I totally misunderstood.

How many miles (K) do you typically get from a set?

Even Michelin no longer makes tires as soft and fast wearing as the specs for early Q REQUIRE. 170 treadwear index

If your tires are not worn to the cords [evenly] in 15,000 miles you have purchased a tire that will probably deliver INFERIOR braking performance on the Q.

60>zero will not be 129 feet! Simple as that...............even the Michelin PS2 has a HIGH 220 wear index vs 170 as designed by Nissan.

Bridgestone still makes a few 140 wear index tires.

Obviously a shorter side wall 16>17>18 might compensate some what in handling.................but when it comes to molecular binding between the tire and the road nothing beats soft fast wearing rubber.

I appreciate all the input.

I agree, saving a few $ on tires can easily be false economy.

I also agree, soft sticky tires that ware out quickly.

I went through a lot of sets of Yoko AVS 255x50x16 before they stopped making them. I sometimes got 15k out of a set.

I did mean the Yoko AVS Neova 255x40x18 on 9x18 wheels. Tread ware index 180, load rating 95W SL.

I am open to other tires. I have plenty of time, since I don't have a car yet.

I will probably pick up a new Solstice GXP this month and then get more focused on the active Q.

Again, I appreciate all the info.

Any recommendations on wheels?

Bruce
