I'm assuming the cost of having custom pistons fabricated probably destroyed any possible cost savings. Dammit I may have to just by pauter rods. Any body know of any other type that's also good?

Ah, "nascar" rods. Those are basically one-offs (nascar likes to play with different crankshaft journals). That is the way the "honda" journal sbc rods came about. ADAMHU, most likely the be width has been resized, because you are using chevy bearings correct? Normal off the shelf cheap bbc rods will not work like that for anyone tempted to buy a set of 8 for 200 bucks, these have a custom 2.00" or smaller journal diameter. Btw. im working hard to make affordable high quality connecting rods available for the ka's.

ka crank rod journal is ~1.960-1.970

sbc chevy, small journal 2.00sbc chevy, large journal 2.10+sbc chevy, "honda" 1.88 (.940" and narrower widths)bbc chevy, standard 2.3+ (available in lenths to suit ka)

the bbc rods are larger journal diameter, so you could not grind the crank to size. Sbc could be done, if you found an appropriate length, and uncommon width (combined with undersize rod bearing). So the "uncommon" width is basically an unfinished rod

i had the custom pistons made so that i could run a flat top piston which is very good for racing, and have huge ring lands made so that i can boost the heck out them, i also had if you look very long skirts made to help dissipate the heat since the ka24e does not have oil squirters like the DE

I'm not looking for anything too serious as far as power goes. i'd just like a little security. Just in case. And paying 1300 cdn for rods would put me over my budget.

Maybe just get the stock rods shotpeened?
