Hello All,

Haven't posted in a while but just noticed a new gas station in my area has E85. I figure I would probably need a tune to run this fuel in my Z but are there any other mods necessary? I have stock TT fuel pump and 740cc Nismo's. BTW I have a 1990 TT with single pop, specialty Z full Turbo back 3inch, pulleys, Z1 Smic, Manual boost controller (running 14psi), Tuned by RDZ motorsports (NIStune).

Hey man long time no see.

What turbos do you have? Stock? If they are stock then you are basically already maxed out as far as the longevity of stock turbos are concerned. With stock turbos 14psi is a good safe efficient number IMHO. The biggest reason to go to E85 for most is to run more boost but if you are on stock turbos then you will be pushing the turbos past their efficiency range. Although there are some people that run as much as 18psi on stock turbos with race fuel and bigger injectors but it certainly isn't safe IMHO because it puts a lot of strain on them. But it depends on your style/goals. Me personally I would rather be slower than other cars but be able to drive my car more than working on it if you get what I mean.

Pretty sure you also need a special sensor in your gas tank to tell your ECU the ethanol or octane content. My understanding is that its very sensitive with E85, so you need to have a good idea of the content of the fuel.

Me and a buddy ran a supercharged ka24 in his s13 for awhile that was on e85. You have to run ethanol compatible injectors, 5-0 injectors makes the ones that he ran. You'll need a bigger fuel pump, we ran twin walbro 255's. One inline and one in tank. All the rubber fuel hoses have to be changed out to e85 compatible fuel hoses. You need to run approximately 30% more e85 than you would conventional gasoline. We ran 555's but those maxed out at 10psi on a eaton supercharger. It's a good bit of work but it's worth it if you upgrade your turbos, with e85 you can run a lot more boost with less worry about detonation.
