Hi guys. Im looking for some advice. I have had my altima coupe 2.5 08 for about a year now just hit 30k miles on it and I will turbo it one day but so far all i have done to her is put on a greddy exhaust system, an cold air intake and bully dog gas tuner. I used the premium tune and my timing is at plus 1 after I read that it gives a few extra hp. I really don't even know what timing is. O i have also lower her with I think they are called eibach lowering springs. That's just my preformance upgrades. Any way I wanted to get a dayno. So i did. Average hp is 135whp and 145 torque. Now i dont think the numbers are right and I would love to post pictures if someone will tell me. Also is there anything else I can do?

Thats about right for stock. Other performance mods are, headers/LW pully/Light wheels/a real tune/etc.

so im on the right track. And top tune for nissan is uprev right? Im also saw were to get a lw pully but i was told that to install it would be around $300? Is that right. I also saw a lw flywheel and im sure I'm going to get headers and aftermarket trucool tyranny cooler since I'm a cvt. Am i missing anything?

Installing a LW pully should definately not cost 300. It'd take maybe about an hr to do for a shop. The flywheel is for the 6spd

A transmission cooler? yah, could help. But, Nissan will try to void the warranty if you do that. If your located in NY, I could maybe help u with stuff if ur unsure on touching stuff.

well looking through the thread I see the problem. You have a CVT. CVT cannot be dyno'd properly. The CVT turbo guys can tell you all about it. addidas2go and SFR spent days doing dynos back to back and kept getting numbers completely different. so no point in trying to dyno a CVT

Agreed, dynoing a CVT is inconsistant. But a stock 2.5 puts down roughly 135hp. OP, If you are willing to drive all the way up here.. I will help you with any mod I can, just bring some beer lol -_^!

I read somewhere back last year about a coupe having to dyno his 2.5 6MT he got similar numbers from what I remember.
Imma search around to see if I could run into it again

I dynoed my car, put down about 135hp. It was stock as well, that was a long time ago I posted it though lol. I think I might have been the first to dyno their 2.5 on this forum.

wade have u done any hp mods yet? or still on stock hp?

& op to make it all worth it id change ur header & header at the same time, since with the header u have to remove the alternator u (or wade) can switch out that pulley at the same time lol just a heads up

It's cool man, yah, I think I was the first to actually post dyno numbers. I remember people didnt believe it. Then later on others posted similar numbers. I am still completely stock engine, I plan to set another new 1/4 mile record with an untouched engine that no one will beat (stock) unless they work damn hard at it and have a 6spd. Then i will mod the engine and drivetrain and get even faster, I see possible 14's with a few mods :naughty: ! I already got a 15.7 my first time this season in NJ, had a lot of trouble launching as I was forced through the water box and it was like 35*, trapping consistently btwn 88-89.+-mph! Getting faster already mph wise

you'll be surprised by how fast you can go with practice. I used to go to the track all the time. I have proof that CVT and 6speed are about the same. 6speed is much faster BUT most people cant put the power down and just spin off the line..... 15.7 is pretty good. I got like a 16.1 with my mom's 05 5speed altima 2.5s

im also really qurious to see what time i could hit with the cvt surge fix as my low end is really horrible. 16.5 was my best 1/4 mile stock time, but the surge was alot worse without my mods, its still bad but not as much

Honestly that time isnt something id rave about, my best time is in my sig; a 15.598 @88.3mph i believe. Traction is a problem for me, even though its a 2.5. I can easily smoke 1st and 2nd even at the track, working on getting it just right is a challenge and fun as hell for me. Practice is definitely key to the 1/4, especially the 60'.

You'll get less WHP on a CVT than 6MT, due to loss of power through the transmission.

The only way to effectively dyno a CVT and find gains, is to do runs at WOT before and after mods. There was a guy on a Rhino forum that opened up the transmission to lock it out in a specific gear; but I don't think any of us plan to do that. Running at WOT without any specific gear ratios will not give you accurate power readings, but it can be used to figure out gains.

The issue with the CVT is that even in manual mode, the gear ratio is not guaranteed. Try 6th gear at 20mph in a CVT, and you'll notice how much harder it pulls until 2,000RPM. The other issues are that when going WOT (past the click) the transmission will downshift - unless downshifting causes you to redline. It will also upshift just before redline.

Theoretically you could dyno it in 1st gear to avoid the downshift, but it will still upshift before redline - and you'll be far from a 1:1 gear ratio. I think using UpRev you may be able to get the ECU to prevent the downshifts/upshifts.

I'll be dynoing my CVT in the next week or two, with some new bolt-ons and UpRev. Stay tuned!

Can't wait to see what you get. Wish I had the $ to use uprev how much you is your shop charging you? I also wanted to know i see cars with like a list of aftermarket dealers on there car and I think it's really cool to support your fav manufacturer but when I google aftermarket stickers I can't find them at all. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and we're to buy them. I want like a list of 5 along the side of my rear or my car going down like near the back tiers

I was being pretty nice lol. I usually charge like 35/hr to do work for people, I dont drink that much lol. I figured it would be for the pulley but we can work it out if your serious. Dyno loss for the CVT is probably around 20%+-, MT is around 15% as a general rule. That would be the difference.

DON'T turbo a 2.5 CVT... You won't enjoy the outcome.
