I don't care who you are, that there's funny

I'm sure this is a simple mistake, but his name is Dennis.

rsiwicki - I wish you the best in getting your Q running top-notch, I know you're putting the time & money into it. You'll be running 14.0's in no time.

sorry for the typo there Dennis....I am so frustrated with these mechanics treating me like crap. I really think that all they can do is the normal maintenance on a car with less than 70,000 miles as they probably don't get many cars in there with 137K on them that have been maintained in top condition or at least try to be maintained in good condition....As we say here in Miami...Cono

thanks for the support Rex...and sorry but I just needed to ventilate because I really held my cool with those guys and did not raise my voice while I was boiling inside....And yes...I was very serious about making that sorry excuse for a mechanic walk back to the dealership for making a comment like that.

does anybody know where I can get an ECU code reader and what brand/make/model I need. I just spoke with Doug at T3 and he said that it sounds like the knocksensors are bad and that there is not much of anything else that could cause the type of problems I am having. He said that he has seen them go after 20K miles of use. As my knocksensors are only 23,000 miles old. This really sucks to have those suckers go again. If I can get them verified to be the knocksenors...I will probably stop the dyno runs and the like as I don't know what good it would do when the car is not running right to begin with.

ECU code reader?

You can either count the blinking lights as outlined in the FSM, or you can take it somewhere with a Consult (Nissan Infiniti dealers only).

I am not going to pay that $hitty dealer one more dime. They just called me up to tell me that the steering rack I bought from Joe is not OEM. Joe told me that it is an OEM rebuilt as I spoke with him today about it....built by Meridian. I believe Joe 100% and gave them Joe's number to confirm with him that it is a factory OEM rebuilt. They said "no" to calling him and said that was end of discussion. If I want my steering adjusted they will charge me another $100 buck...forget that crap. Man...I should have lost my cool and swore at them big time. I can't believe this crap and I have been very professional about it all.

Is there anyway I can buy a cheap Discount Auto Parts store ECU reader that will work?

If Dennis can give me a price on doing the knocksensors and swaping in my new LevelTen transmission and the price looks good...then off to Atlanta my car goes and I will have them do both...the transmission and knocksensors with the piece of mind knowing that everything was done correctly and that when I ask them to check everything else over that it will get done properly.

I think a trip to T3 would be the smartest move you could make Rob.

They'll check things the dealer techs never even HEARD of.

LOL....that is funny you say that about Q45tech....I am really looking forward to meeting Dennis and personally saying thanks for all the support and challenges (4.08 vs. No 4.08) that he gives us. I can't believe the timing of my knocksensors...this really sucks becuase we were going to have some really good HP per mod type indications. Well I have a rough starting point with a dyno run and the 1/4 mile...so it can only improve from there.

Sorry you had to go through the same thing with your car.

I must say the thought has nicely crossed my mind about having one of the best modified and good running Q's out there on the streets. I am sure that you and I will get our M5 & XJR killers...

sounds good to me as the XJR is on my list...I had a lot of little ricers eyeing my car last night and a lot of questions while at the 1/4 mile...they all thought that I was a much faster car than the 15.8 posted. I told them that something was not right above 4,000rpms and they all looked at me with that look of "yeah right I have heard that before". Well in about a month after I get this beast running I am sure that I will have their attention again but this time in a positive way.

Well I have been with the head mechanic at the dealer this morning versus the other regular mechanic and we have come to a preliminary conclusion after running the consult while driving & duplicating the problem as the car is not showing any codes. The initial thoughts are torque converter failing. We duplicated the problem several times...while cruising while he took the consult and kept running different tests....like a readout every other second of every parameter and what finally came back is it looks like the TC is screwing things up as something about it being at 94% when rpms drop by 200 (actually 50-100 rpm as per the consult) around 4000rpms while under hard acceleration. We also noticed during the test drives that there is a very slight pinging sound and they are going to look into the timing and knocksensors to see how it is related. I had heard the pinging sound before...but ever so slight and only during a specific situation....we got one test run in and it initially looked like somehow after a WOT run and then cruising @ 70mph that when you give it a little gas again....slightly that the timing is not correct. We went through all the checks....high octane, regular service (fuel filters, etc.) and then he says....might be an injector is dirty.....Hmmm now I start laughing and he realizes that he had told me about a week ago that I did not need a fuel rail flush and refused to do one. I just smiled and said whatever it is...again check it all over and I want it perfect....he is still a little hesitant on the exact cause of the pinging as it only occurs under a very specific set of circumstances...but will look into it. In the end he gave me thumbs up and said that he has not seen a Q maintained this good in a very long time...

Well the TC thing will be resolved late next week as I am getting a new transmission & TC anyway...talk about timing. Well it looks like my trip to T3 will be on hold for a little while as it does not initially appear to be knocksensors.

BTW...the head mechanic is very familar and a fan of the original Q and told me stories of chasing down 5.0's when he had his Q which made things easier and he said that he would make sure that he over sees any work done on my car....Now this is service what I like in service....A guy who really cares about cars, even though I am still upset about the rail flush issue we had a couple of weeks ago. I think I finally earned his respect and he was telling me of a guy here in Miami that use to own a Q all modified that had a different cam in it that was all NA doing the 1/4 in mid 13's. He had not seen the guy around in about a year...so don't know if the guy is still around, but I will try to find out who he is.

Also they are installing my 4.08 rearend :D .....at least that will be done. I should get the car back tomorrow....I don't want another weekend stuck in a G35.

I was contemplating buying a G35, but have not driven one. I own a 95 Q in great condition. What don't you like about the G35??

The Q to me just feels like home to me. I have never enjoyed driving small cars as I am every bit of 6'4". The G35 sedan is a very nice car...but not worth $30,000+ to me versus my no payments (but I do have high $$ repair bills).

There are a few little things here and there like the radio volume level self adjusts according to your speed that really drives me nuts as it self adjusts too loud. The biggest dislike I have with the car is the AT transmission. The slap stick manumatic shift thing does not respond quick enough and then there is the driving adaption style mode. If you race the engine a little the transmission keeps the gearing in a kind of sport mode thing that does not let go until you have driven more normal for a while bit. Kind of like if you pull out in traffic quickly and then ease up on the throttle to cruise for a sec and then lightly want to accelerate again the car takes off like a rocket as it things you are still wanting to hot rod the car. I can't find an inbetween acceleration spot like there is in the Q....the G35 just seems to either want to race or granny drive...no inbetween.

I am getting more use to the car and in all it is a very nice tight handling litte car, but I miss my Q.

My reactions also. I really like the handling on the G35 and I like the 6MT, but I wouldn't switch it for my Q45.

I agree...it is a very nice car and I would buy it over a 3 series, but I just love my Q.

Thanks for your desciption of the G35. I have decided to keep the Q, and it's nice to hear others agree.rsiwicki, I'm looking forward to reading about your rear end mod....I have been going back & forth on doing it or not....

After I get it installed and everything else working...I might sell it and get a ratio that is as close to a 4.17 as I can get. The reason for this move is becuase I am putting 275/40/18 on the rear and will increase the diameter by 0.6" which inturn will lower my 4.08 ratio down to a 3.99 ratio. I need a 4.17 ratio to maintain balance between everything and to keep the speedo accurate. If I do this switch....it will be around the end of June and somebody can buy my old 4.08 which is only good for the 94-96 cars as the flanges are different than the 90-93 cars. Also they will benefit from not having any down time as they can just stick the new rearend in without having ship, wait, ship, install done.
