not sure if this has been gone over or how much, but i got 12sq feet of it yesterday for 50 bucks. and put it all in the back hatch and now i cant hear all the annoying exhaust ****, and the the road noise is alot quieter from covering the wheel wells.

and anyone is driving and its to loud i highly recommend dynamat.

lol im done. oh and i plan on covering most of my interior in this, lol its that good.

I don't know about you guys, but I LOVE to hear my engine.

On long drives where I wont be playing with the RPM too much, I tend to use my iPod. (No radio in my stripped 240.)

Where did you get it from for $50, and does the 12sq feet cover the whole hatch area? I'm gonna need some kind of deadner if I get the sub I'm plannin, plus I don't want my exhaust to be annoying from the inside either.

i got it from a local shop, and no did not cover entire hatch, about another 7-8 square feet will finish it off.

and its not heavy but its not weightless. lol but its nothing you will really notice unless you do your wholes car, and its worth it.

easy to install and a huge difference imo.

really only need to be concerned about weight if its a track car. you wouldn't even care about sound deadening if it was a track car anyway. need more powahh if you've got weight issues. I ultimately want the entire interior done. I want a powerful aggressive ride but at the same time a smooth quite ride to just chill and cruise around in. I can't wait to be able to have a thought again while driving my car.

I need to get the rest of the factory sound deadening out, but this is on my to do list. Can anyone estimate how much area the floor pan is? Or figure how many ft. it takes to do a full cover. I want a quiet car for the first time in my life.

x2 I think dyna mat and the like is amazing. There's a place here called Speed of Sounds (not many people like) but I did get to check out a couple of rides they were working on. one was a Hummer H2 putting a mad system in but the one I really liked was a newer Cadillac DTS 4 door that was jet black with 5% tint on the windows and the interior was redone with black suede and dynamat on everything, got in and the sounds and noises of the sound were drowned out and when that thing hit the base it made you freaking go numb.

for the advantages of it, I wouldn't mind a few extra pounds on the car

i've definitly been thinking about doing this, the whole rear interior is stripped in the car i just got and its loud as f**k Does it really deaden the exhaust sound that much?

Whether if you're running a straight pipe or rockin stock exhaust you'll still hear some of it of course. I'd say if you do the doors and the wheel wells and the trunk/floor. You can cut about, I don't know, uhh 40% or more of the sound out? I'm just guessing I'm not really all that sure but it muffles the sounds pretty good. It has come down in price A LOT since I first started thinking about it.

Dynamat is definitly great. I found out from a friend who installs car audio that if you put it down in a chevron or checkerboard pattern it is about 90% as effective as if you cover the entire area, plus half the material is half the cost and weight. Since it doesn't insulate sound as much as it dampens high frequency vibrations putting it in the middle of large pannels and other areas prone to vibration gives you the most bang for your buck.

yeah i hear exhaust out the back, but im driving with a v8, and long tube headers and new cats and 3 inch all the way back to a fart can.

im taking it to a muffler shop in the next couple weeks for a good exhaust and finish up the noise.

but as far as just the back that i did. it cut the noise down so much. like out of a % of noise coming from the back after 12sq feet id say only about 30% of road noise and exhaust can still be heard. and there is tons more that i need to cover in the back.

it worked really well for me and instead of doing new lights im now going to finish dynamating the car hahahahahhaa

I just layed down 36 sq. feet of dynamat in my car it cover from under the dash to then back sit in my coupe. also on the wheel well and about 2 sqft in trunk. say about 2 36sq ft bulk pack(9 sheets) should cover everything inside include ceiling.I also got dynapad but that 12 sq ft and it covered only the 2 front seats.

p.s. get a roller it helps a lot a couple sizes. i got the small one and that tired me out like nothing

my s13 hatch has some rubberized factory sound deadening adhered to the floor (as i'm sure they all do). have you guys just been going right over top of that stuff, or does it need to be removed before you can lay down the dynamat?

Don't forget to search! "Removing Factory Sound Deadening" would probably do.. It's something along the lines of dry ice, but I'm not sure on the details so you'll probably have to search for it.. :P

yeah thanks, searching is how i found this thread. but my question was, is removing it necessary or not? i hadn't found an answer to that question yet. i take it from your response that it is. what a pain. but thanks for clearing that up.

I don't think its necessary, but I've never heard of anyone doing any sound testing before and after with and without both (because it would take so much time, and would waste a bunch of sound deadening material to test). Dynamat (and others) will still adhere to the stock material though, if that's what you were wondering.

oh well that's good news. looks like it would have been a pain to remove. and i like the idea of retaining the added layer of deadening.

thanks

Not necessary, but I would take the factory deadener off. Took me quite a few hours in total, but I filled up a kitchen garbage can and it's not light stuff. Seems like it would be excessive weight to just throw it all on top of the factory stuff.
