Nothin in particular, I just enjoy these kinds of threads....

Notice how people who enjoy automobiles, also have a great deal of other interests. For example, here on NICO we've got people who are computer nerds, salesmen, realtors, doctors, law enforcement..people who dabble in many things, even outside the automotive world.

Now take people who aren't really "into" the car hobby, and notice how one dimensional they seem, with their cliche' type comments, and buzz-word usage about JDM, turbos, etc...

These people seem like morons to us, because we notice that they don't know anything about our obsession, and we don't care to know about what they are interested in. We know that we have many interests, so we ourselves seem interesting to each other. BUT we see them as having only half-hearted interest in something we hold dear to us. They seem fake, we mock them here, the world keeps on turning.

Not totally a question but by far the stupidest thing I have heard said. When the hood is up staring right at the turbo.

Lude:Is it turbo?

Me: No

Lude: ok. I see the cold air (pointing at the IC Piping) Oh and there is the other intake.(The real intake filter)

Me: (laughing) so you wanna race.

hey smith, you make a great point. its all in your perspective. we sit back and make fun of the people who arent into the hobby, critsizing they're questions and coments, yet we may make the same mistakes when asking about there stuff. the only problem is, i dont know any kid who thinks he/she knows about cars that is actually smart. this guy at my old school drives a neon. the guy thinks hes so great at car stuff that he flaunts his expertise. the sad thing is, the guy's neon looks like ****, has a big wing, and is damn slow. but lets get away from the ricer mentality of these questions. i have met some really dumb people in my day, and i have been asked many a dumb question. most of these questions are asked by A) someone trying to look cool like they know what they're talking about. or B) someone who is just generally mistaken, and isnt looking for acceptance, but maybe info. the latter i take kindly too and help out, but the others i treat with no respect. you mentioned other interests and stuff. im into this game called Warhammer 40k. i dont know how many people are familiar with it, so i'll make a quick summery. its a turn based tabletop game using 35mm miniatures assembled in armies. the game relys on strategy and skill. when i used to play at this shop, i'd get little kids asking me what certain guys did or if they could make a certain move. if they were wrong, i'd correct them, no harm done. but if i had kids coming up to me, asking stuff like "so do they shoot little missles or something" id give them some smartass remark. i didnt get as many morons playing that game as i did magic the gathering. id have all sorts of idiots playing that game cause it was the cool thing. they'd as me stupid questions and try and pull of dumb stuff all the time. anyways, i could go on, but its late, and im in this stage that im thinking on a higher level cause im half-asleep. i gotta stop myself before i take up too much space. laters

the funniest stupid car question ive gotten was at a large meet i had my Ca18det in and my friends next to me had a SR and the other had a normal KA, kid comes up asks me how come you didnt go with a black top? everyone around broke out in laughter, even most the ricers around here are now educated in Ca and Sr differances since they all swarm the nissans at meets, turbo 240s are super rare here.

by far the the stupidest conversations/questions come from the college kids i deal with every day at work, i swear for being in college and spending upwards 100K a year on education they are the dumbest people i have ever encounterd, id say 90% ive dealt with are just morons.

I think it's stupid enough paying "spending upwards 100K a year on education." But that's just me....

i think the stupidest thing anyone has ever asked me was from my mom, i did a silvia front end conversion, and its still not painted, so the hood and fenders are a dark blue, while the front bumper is 2 tone green. my mom came into my room one night, and asked if i had noticed that my hood was blue. i followed up by asking her if she had noticed that my fenders were also blue, and that my bumper was light green, she hadnt noticed the fenders or the bumper. other than all of the stupid ppl stopping me on the street asking if i have a turbo or SR20. thats about all my stupid questions.

well people that dont know about our hobbies should just not ask as many questions like my one friend will just ask me one dumb question after the next even when he sees im getting mad, i dont mind explaining it but i just wish he wouldnt think that he knows it all.. then after i say somthing he will copy it and say it to everyone.. hell he even bought a 240 because i had one, same with back in the day when i bought my goped.. lately alot of my friend have been copying me.. it sucks :(

anyways as for a dumb question,

::just walks in the door::mom: where is your brother?me: how the hell should i know, ive been at school all night...mom: so u dont know where he is?me: NO

They didn't ask me... but this was asked in my Driver's-Ed class, and it definitely is up there (don't ask how we got to this topic. "There's this guy in my math class who is colorblind and he can't see red... so... I wore red pants one day... does that mean he could see through them?"

Hey, there's no such thing as a stupid question...if the person really doesn't know. But if they're trying to impress you with knowledge they really don't have by asking technical questions about your car like, "why's your engine in sideways?" or "Why didn't you drop a B18 in it?" (That is classic!) Then they are stupid questions. Sometimes we take for granted our vast knowledge of cars (LOL), most people who are into cars don't even get as into them as people like us here. That's why we're here, we are the dorky computer guys of automobilia. I gotta get off this damned computer, maybe I'll go build a model or play Need For Speed....
