Some people have Cali custom lowered springs.Best person to ask would be elwesso.I'm not sure if any are still available, because I believe their production was stopped..... but someone may have a set sitting in their garage waiting to be sold to you.

The active suspension is quite different. The springs are softer, due to the actuators and accumulators supporting some of the vehicles weight. As far as I know, there isn't any way of lowering the active, without getting the "ACTSUS" light on the dash to light up.

The cali custom springs are for the standard suspension set-up only

Keep in mind that the active suspension is far superior to the suspension setup of just about every production car in the world. No body roll at lateral 0.5g is fairly impressive.....Don't rule it out just because you can't lower it.There is a control module around the place on the net/ebay that allows you to adjust the height of the suspension, using a potentiometer. The actives have a switch for "normal" and "height" settings. I believe the control module taps into the signal from this switch and allows you to adjust the ride height further than the built in switch. (kinda how a HKS fuel cut defender tricks the ECU into thinking you are at lower boost than what you actually have running)

Also, I believe velvet hammer here on the boards installed some slightly modified R32 Skyline coilovers with success to his Q45...... Just another thing to ponder.....

The actives sit slightly lower than standard Qs, especially in the rear. You can slightly adjust right height by adjusting the height sensors. its a iffy operation and you can really only do it once the active is fully restored.

You can also get the JDM height controllers that will allow you to change ride height like that, sorta like air.

wow, good to know. the one with active susp. is running perfect, so when i test drive it, is there anything i should look for specifically, i.e. leaky sensors for shocks (i have no clue where to look btw). the other one runs, but has a coolant hose leak, so i will probably change it and test drive it, or fill it with coolant and (assuming the hose isnt leaking profusely) test drive it , then change the hose if it runs good.

any suggestions on what to look for when "kicking the tires" would be much appreciated.

Did you read the buying guide....?

If you are looking at the car, give me a call if you have any questions. My number is on the contact page on http://www.q45.org

The active is probably NOT running perfect unless you have documented evidence that the accumulators were replaced.

Check the active fluid wiht the motor running and make sure its fine, check the active codes.

yeah, i read the buying guide, its more telling about idling and running problems, so i am prepared for that. but im talking about suspension issues, rust prone areas, really expensive things to fix, or any red flags that should make me walk away.

If theres a coolant leak under the plenum its going to be expensive to fix even if you do the work yourself. The hoses are probably dry-rotted and the hoses are expensive. You have to remove a bunch of hoses just to get the plenum off.

The active is not for the feint of mind. if youre not hardcore about getting it to perfect, its going to give you more trouble than you want to deal with. Basically, if you dont want to pay to appreciate an active car, dont buy one. It will take about 1200 more than a stock suspension to make perfect. But youll end up with a car unlike anything you've ever driven.

Rust prone areas are the rear quarter panels, on the wheel well where the bumper meets the fender. Also, in the area in the bottom rear corner of the rocker panels where the rear door closes. Those 2 places are the only places ive seen Q rust.

The best thing for you to do is to drive the car, notice EVERYTHING and report back. I can babble on for YEARS about the ins and outs of G50 Q45s. I dont want to bore you. Honestly the best thing for you to do is to drive a Q that is known to be perfect, and then you can compare. The thing about Qs is that they usually feel OK even if theyre not perfect, but they wont be the handling, balls to the walls machines we say they are.

Since you're in CA, get the procedure for Ohm'ing the injectors and do that. They'll run you ~$150 or so each, plus labor (you can DIY), but that should be a big negotiating point.
