Assemblyman Joseph Saladino (R-Massapequa) has introduced a bill that would require parents of high school students to give their children annual drug tests.

“If they dont do it, the student would not be allowed into school,” Saladino told CBS 2′s Jennifer McLogan.

I think this is a HUGE violation of privacy. I would NOT drug test my child and I would send them somewhere else. One drug test a year will not catch an addict.

Do you think this would be an effective / successful program?

Feel-good BS that will train kids to submit to false authority.

+1 to what Jesda said.

It's pointless.
Waste of time and money.

Lol, that would just mean every kid would get clean pee from their younger siblings! Or, if you live around me, there's a liquor store 5mins from my house that sells clean piss.

Come on, truth is, kids try drugs in high school. Imo it's a milestone for most teenagers. There's no getting around that. What drugs they end up trying is up to them....

“We want to make sure that parents have the tools they need to determine if there’s an addiction problem with a serious drug — we’re talking heroin, barbiturates, opiates — the kinds of drugs that lead to death,” Saladino said.
Um, point of order, you alarmist f*** stick, THEY ALREADY HAVE THE TOOLS! You are simply forcing them to use them. You are simply forcing ALL of them to use them. Speaking of tools, this assemblyman is one and the parents trying to retroactively cleanse their guilt by forcing other parents to do what they did not should do something more productive with the heavy hearts like speak regularly to the kids.

I would not drug test my kid unless I had reason to suspect it, not because some a** hat thinks he can mandate it. Counter proposal, all assembly members are required to piss quarterly. Failure to do so will result in expulsion from the assembly.
Themadscientist was quoted as saying "this guy must be smoking crack to come up with such a ridiculous idea; get him a cup. The voters of this district need to have the tools to know that new dumbass laws are not the result of legislators being high on bat s***, but rather through the time-honored system of simple, sober stupidity"

I didn't. And if my school had implemented mandatory drug testing I would have resented the implication otherwise.

I sawre sometimes adults are bigger b****es than the children. They know they all were hitting acid in the free world in HS in the 70's. The most kids are doing is smoking ciggarettes and weed, and maybe a small % drinking a beer or 2 but far from having it interfere with school work. I bet half the teachers get high themselves!

A teacher at my high school regularly bought weed off one of my friends. We all knew they did more drugs than the students.

So one teacher did it means that they all did. Brilliant! :squint:

PS: I hope both the teacher and student were arrested.

Some do, I didn't. I've never tried drugs, never smoked and didn't drink until my early 20's. I guess the dumbass stoners coughing smokers and stupid drunks couldn't sell me on their lifestyle.

This misconception that trying all the stuff you can is some sort of natural right of passage is a bunch of s*** propagated by people who did and need to feel they are somehow the normal ones.

Everyone has to decide for themselves what is best for them. Want to smoke crack, go right ahead and wrap your lips around that glass d!ck. Just don't let your loser existence impact my excellent one or I will bring you to an end.

My drug has and always will be adrenaline. Like any illicit drug it will likely kill me someday.

People do Heroin in high school? holy s***!
audtatious wrote:Crock of crap legislation. Wonder if he was lobbied by some local drug testing firm.
I was thinking the same thing.

Not to mention its a blatant conflict of interests. "Make your kid piss in this cup, if it comes back dirty, we kick him out of school".

Like a parent wants to find out their kid is on drugs and gets kicked of school at the same time. Its in their best interests to either:
1. Piss in that s*** themselves
2. Warn the kid that the test is coming
3. Tell the self-righteous bastard to go f*** himself.

What's funny is heroin is becoming more and more common in high school. There were a LOT of people who did it regularly, and even more that just tried it. Weed and alcohol just isn't exciting enough for them anymore. Now the cool thing to do is pills and heroin.

It's a big reason why stuff like this is being brought up. The drugs kids are trying aren't recreational, they're hardcore. At my old middle school about a year ago, a kid was caught with coke. MIDDLE SCHOOL.

...and this is all in Scottsdale too. Rich parents who don't watch their kids and give them basically a blank check.

So adults who have drug habits breed kids who have drug habits? I should apply for a research grant to study the possible correlation, blow the money on cars and submit a one page doctoral thesis that simply reads "well no s***!"

^ What do you mean? The parents, 90% of the time have no idea what's going on and what their kid is doing. They just give their kids unlimited money and assume that they're buying lots of food, gas, etc......

I could go on and on, but if parents don't stay involved, it can easily happen where their kid gets addicted to some sort of drug. It's all too common anymore. There's a difference between a strict parent and a good parent.

Rich white people have a higher usage rate of over the counter drugs like antidepressants that often exhibit the same signs of addictive behavior that their drugged out kids have.

There is little difference in the mentality of some kid popping X or smoking meth or using any number of other drugs from the parents who are just as dependent upon pills to wake up, pills to get hard, pills to cope with anxiety, pills to lose weight, and pills to go to sleep; "I need it."

No, you don't need it. At some point you convinced yourself or were convinced that you needed them by a doctor whose profession has degenerated into little more than a college-educated drug pusher in some cases.

Mommy tells Johnny he's bad because he lights up a blunt and then retreats to her room to down a couple of Valium with a vodka chaser "to cope" while dad is across town popping Viagra to get a boner so he can f*** his 20-something girl on the side who herself is throwing back diet pills like tictacs because the TV told her she was just a piece of meat to be used by men and that she is too fat to be desirable for that purpose, but JOHNNY HAS THE PROBLEM? I don't think so. :nono:

Johnny is doing what has been demonstrated to him by the people who are supposed to be his role models, solving his problems with drugs. Good boy Johnny, good boy. Sorry the adults let you down man, good luck finding your path in life with a bent compass.

Where?

Back to the topic at hand - Jesda is right. Stupid idea.

We've already had the experimentation" phase in our household. Am I bad parent because I had no idea my kid was "dabbling" until it was blatantly obvious? Your call.

However, I balanced my disappointment in his poor choices with the knowledge that he's, for the most part, a straight-A student who's respectful, caring, and loves his family...
