My buddy wrecked his '96 integra the day before I had my wreck, his got totalled out, he got 10,500 for that stupid car, and so his mommy and daddy helped him out and bought him a brand new Hyundai (sp) Tiburon. It looks pretty good, I like the interior pretty well (s14's is better though), but the crappy thing is its a 4cylinder. Now I'm not saying it would be much better being a v6, but this thing SUCKS. Its a 5spd at least. He ran it already on the 1/4 and ran a 17.1 as his best time. I drove it tonight, and it feels soo heavy. Like a dog running on 2 legs or something. I dont know why I felt the need to start a thread about this, but maybe this will help anyone contemplating on buying a Tiburon, if they were thinking about it for some reason. So basically, dont buy one. Maybe the v6 is better, but the 4cylinder is a DOG.

I thought that kid was going to buy a WRX. He kept talking about trading in his Integra for a WRX. I think he bugged Andy all night long about it when we were at the BG meet.

Who picked the 4 Cyl Tibby, your friend or his parents? If you're friend chose it, it looks like he went with looks over performance. But it's kinda hard to knock a free new car, even if it's an underpowered 4 cyl Hyundai. As his friend, it's your mission to make sure he doesn't rice it up.

He paid 10,300 of it, which is what he got from his integra. The rest his parents paid for. I guess they didnt' want to pay extra for a v6.

I mean honestly I like the styling of the new Tiburons. I like the interior as well, just not the motors or the handling.

You do have a point, but then that is where Hyundai customer service and all of that comes in. Do they ask questions about what happened to your motor or transmission? Do they just say ok we will give you a new motor? I mean nothing is as good as it sounds anymore it seems.

who cares?? I would! I wouldn't want to be driving a loaner car for the 10 year 100k mile warranty I had. If the thing is in the shop constantly whats it worth????

Just my .02 cents though........

im just saying dont complain if sumthing breaks cuz u new it was going to being a hyundai. and it shouldnt break down and go through 3 engines and trannies if u treat ur car right. hyundai sonatas were not built to be race cars so u shouldnt treat them like they r. my .02 cents

I totally agree, I wasn't aiming that response really at you, but you know what I mean about if you pay for something it shouldn't be broken down constantly!!!!

Sorry if you thought I was aiming that at you....no worries!!!!

my best friends mom has an o3 tibby 4cy 5spd, i drove it one night, and i HATE the shifter, the gates are so FUBBERY its pathetic, i had to drive it for 15 minutes just to get used to the gear shifting of that car, and it was pretty slow, i whooped it with 3 people in my car and a full tank of gas from a stop (and i have an auto) when only one person was in the tiburon, it does look pretty good though, and i personally like the guages, but other than that, nah, good warranty too though, i also thought it felt somewhat heavy for being such a small car, it didnt have enough pick up, and i rammed that lil bugger all the way to 8k, wel once, i seriously thought i fuked up something

I looked at the Tibby V6 when they first changed the body style(early 02).I drove one the same day I tested out the Spec V.I thought the V6 would be faster than the 2.5 Spec but that was not the case.I hated the performance.I did like the looks and dual pipes.

well i never drove the v6, but i do know that without the larger wing (which is only availabe on the 6) the tibby looks no where near as aggressive, and i do love the dual pipes, but that shifter, ahh, i hated it, and without the 17in wheels and michelines, it just takes so much away from the car, but for like 15k you can't beat it

Odds are his engine's not going to blow up unless he drives it daily like a moron or skips the scheduled maintenance. ( The 4 cyl Tibby's sharp styling implies sporty but they're pretty much mundane economy cars. The V-6 version's motor is right of the Sonata, which is not exactly a screamer in the performance dept either, but a little better than the anemic 4 banger.

I think'll it be a fine daily driver for the guy, but he should have no delusions about racing it, unless he likes losing.

I hated the shifter as well. Very strange feeling. I like the interior design and guages, and styling. He did opt for the 17's w/ michelins, which was good. So it looks good. Handles HORRIBLY also.

:rotflmao :rotflmao :rotflmao :spit

if your going to buy a car that is going to break down alot for 15k you might as well make it a FD RX-7, and foot the repairbills yourself (totally worth it concidering you will actualy be buying a car that will be worth something in the future)
