I've owned at least 10 pairs of these shoes over my lifetime. Perfect for skating and driving

Those adidas are pretty good. Comfort is good and all, but a shoe can be comfortable and suck balls as a "driving shoe". Most competitors I talk to say either wrestling shoes or real racing shoes are best due to being very light weight, fairly stiff and they dont enlarge your foot area.

Adidas Goodyear's here. Very light, rubber goes all the way up the heel and have a sweet v-tread on the bottom.

asics wrestling shoes. They are extremely lightweight and you can feel the pedals through the soles

Piloti Monaco's baby. Super comfy and reinforced in the right side of the right shoe for heel and toe. Also nomex lined. Payed $10 off of ebay for brand new pair (improperly listed ).

I rock the Sambas. That little circle dealy on the ball of your big toe makes the heel-toe pivot really easy to do. And once you really get 'em broken in, you can practically grab the pedals with your toes.

Skater shoes = too large sole

The objective of a good driving shoe is to make itself invisible. Added thickness anywhere (including the tongue) is bad. The only thing the shoe is there for is pedal grip, fire protection, and to a small degree so that you dont cut up your feet when you have to get out of the car. If its comfortable walking around in, it isnt a proper driving shoe.

To me driving with bare feet is just a bad idea (aparently so does the state of pennsylvania, since it is against the law here), because it usually means a pair of something sitting on the floor a few inches from the pedals. When the crap hits the fan, the last thing you want is for something to lodge itself between the brake pedal and the floor. This is the same reason you are required to take your floormat out for autocross. No amount of foot trickery will save you when your flipflop desides to wander where it shouldnt.
