My sr20 came with a cut driveshaft in the rear of the transmission and no matter what i do its not coming out. I can lift the transmission up from the this driveshaft piece. would it be easier to remove it once i attach it to the motor? when i removed the driveshaft from my ka it came out pretty easy.

The yoke should slide easily from the transmission. Your transmission may have internal damage from shipping or from whoever pulled the motor in Japan. If the trans was left without fluid for too long, it is also possible that the splines inside the yoke have rusted to the splines on the output shaft.

Be very careful trying to remove the yoke, if you put to much lateral pressure on the output shaft, you could easily dent a bearing or bushing within the transmission. If I were you, I would use an air chisel to work the yoke out, although, the damage may already be done.

It may be time to start looking for a new transmission.

there was a thread a while back about a guy that couldn't get the yoke out. he ended up using a TON of rope and an engine lift to force it out. it was pretty clever...... but i'm pretty sure he had to get a new transmission.

See that first big U joint on the driveshaft

Find the biggest hammer in your shop, and have them make out.

thanks for the input. After hassling with the driveshaft I just swapped out the bell housing between my ka and sr. It was some what difficult because it was my first time ever trying it by myself. Thanks to HiJackers great write up on it, that pretty much guided me through it. But since i couldnt get the tail shaft off of the sr cuz of the driveshaft i just had to take the bellhousing off. hopefully everything works out for me.
