Just a reminder, if any of you are interested, you should probably register soon. With over a month to go before the event, some of the run groups are already waitlisted. There are still spots open for first timers, but I don't know how much longer before it sells out....Hope to see you there.

I'm sure she'll last that long. Take good care of it.

TurboKA37: Hope you can do BeaveRun. It's a nice little track. There's also an October Audi event at Summit Point Raceway (West of Baltimore near Harpers Ferry) that might be closer to home. Audi usually rents out the SP main track and Jefferson circuit. Beginners get to spend a day on each.Jefferson gets featured on Motorweek a lot and is a wickedly fun circuit,SP's skidpad is pretty nice too. SP's head instructor for beginners is amazing, actually works for BSR, which is a company that trains cops in high speed pursuit.

I revived this thread from the archives as registration has opened for this fall's VIR event. VIR is a very popular track and the Audi school almost always sells out. The April school sold out over a month in advance.

This event is Nov 19-20 (the weekend before Thanksgiving). here's the link

http://www.audiclubna.org/chap...id=16

If you click on VIR instruction tab, there are some nice lapping videos to give you an idea how awesome VIR is. The elevation changes are great, and the back straight is long enough to find your top speed safely.

There is also an Audi HPDE at Summit Point in October, which i also recommend. If you live in the MD, DE, NJ, WV, PA, NJ, DC, you are not far away from SP. Summit Point also has a nice big paved paddock perfect for a NICO mini meet.

hope to see some NICOnauts come.

Im going to start doing HPDEs pretty soon, like in the next couple months, after i get my helmet.

However im wondering if it would be okay to use my Azenis for the first one or two events, because i dont know how hot theyll get? And they get sloppy when they get too hot. I dont want to pay $300 and not be able to drive as well because of overheating tires.

you think they would be ok bubba?

I think you'll be okay. Audi doesn't want Beginner/Novices on R compound tires, but I don't believe Falken Azeni's are Rcompound. I know they're popular among autocrossers.

VIR is a long smooth flowing course that's not as hard on tires as some other tracks. Add in the cooler temps in November and I think Azeni's will perform great. The tires will inevitably get hot, but part of the experience is adjusting your driving as they get hot. You also will find yourself discussing tire pressures with other enthusiasts.

As far as helmets go, if you don't own one, they'll rent you one for $40.And if you're unsure what to get, there will be about 200 other helmet owners there that would be happy to discuss what's out there.

Anytime. Yeah, I'll be tossing the ol' Z around. I hope to see you out there too. I've doing Audi HPDE's for several years, and usually in a Nissan. Always a great time.

Regards.

Just bumping this up. The eventmaster just told me yesterday that there are only about 6 spots open ineach run group for this event. After that's it's a waiting list and spots are then given by earliest postmark.

If you are interested in driving your car at VIR, plus taking some hot laps in an instructor's car, you might want to sign up this week. The school falls on Saturday/Sunday which makes it more convenient for those with a long drive.

an update, VIR just sold out. They are now running a waiting list if anyone's still interested.

I just learned a good friend (an instructor) just purchased a 1989 VW Rallye Golf. He said he's planning to bring it. It's one of only 20 in the US. Looks like an ordinary Golf with slightly flared fenders and an extra line of intakes in the grill. But it's a handmade, factory supercharged AWD wolf in sheeps clothing. I'm looking forward to trying it out. I'll take some pics.

Just found out today that Randy Pobst is going to be one of the instructors at the event next week. Pretty cool having a celeb for an instructor.I'll try to post some pics when I get home.

I thought about posting this thread there. I also considered the Regional Forum as these schools make great locations for NICO mini meets (unsubtle hint) . But I didn't want to clog up bandwidth.

All of the friends I've brought to these events get hooked. It is fun rubbing elbows with racers, other enthusiast clubs, and exotic car owners that use their exotics the way they were designed to be used. It's even more fun turning hot laps in those race cars and exotics.

I've been on the track with Pobst several times. He's very friendly and amazingly quick. After watching him drive, I knew I better not give up my day job anytime soon. I might try to snare a ride with him.

Hi again. Just thought I'd bump this thread instead of starting a fresh one. The Audi Club is renting out the full course at VIR (Alton VA) for a 2 day HPDE. It's April 24th-25th (Mon/Tue). You don't need an Audi or any special modifications on your car (unless you own a convertible) to attend. I do these Audi schools every year in an ordinary stock Nissan. Last event had 3 Nissans: an S14, a stock 350Z and a sweet RHD Skyline. Open registration begins February 7th. The last Audi HPDE at VIR in November had a waiting list going a full month before the school. So if any of you are interested in trying it, I would recommend not waiting til the last minute.

The last HPDE featured Randy Pobst as a guest instructor, who had students in every run group. The club encourages students to take rides with instructors, which are like thrill rides. Some very interesting and exotic instructor cars, including a Carrera GT, and some full-blown race cars.

If you wanted drive your car 100+ mph legally on a world class road course, VIR is the best place to do it.

here's the link:

http://www.audiclubna.org/chap...id=54

For information about VIR itself, here's a link

http://www.virclub.com/vir/

There are some interesting lapping video's if you want to taste of VIR:

http://www.routethis.net/video/VIR-Instruction/

The paddock is huge, good size for a NICO mini-meet. Hope to see some NICOnauts come. It's well worth the trip.Hit me up if you have questions.

Regards.

Yeah. Most of the schedule is out, but not all of it. If you live in the northeast I see:

Lime Rock 6/14-15Watkins glen 7/10-11, 8/28-29Mid Ohio 7/21-23

They usually do BeaveRun in Mid July which isn't listed yet. Summit Point this fall is going to be on the new Shenandoah circuit.

My vote would be to get it running quickly so you can enjoy it sooner.

well the cars fine for the street, its just ill need a set of tires, and a set of brake pads for the track, plus a helmet, then add the entry fee to that

i think ill probably run the track days though now that i think about it...running the NA car on the track with stock brakes and pretty much stock engine and a set of agx's with a stiffer spring will be good experience for running ITA and SE-R Cup, which i should be building a car for within about 2 years

That sounds great. I ran a stock high mileage S13 (see Repo's pics earlier in this thread) at a bunch of these quattro schools and had a blast. Bounced off the speed limiter a couple times on the back straight.

You can also rent a helmet if you're not sure what to get. I know they're accepting SA-95's but this 'll be the last year for them.
