My 5 Speed swap is pretty much a success. Swap completed, wiring done. I have put a few hundred km's on the system, & the only thing I have to work out is a rumble from the drive shaft, particularly at the high end of each gear & at top speed, say 60 miles per hour ++.

I predict the drive shaft has to be balanced, or it is bent, or the yokes are kaput !!!!!!!

Is this a common experience with junk yard swaps???

Has anyone removed the two piece system & replaced with a one piece drive shaft???

Let me know guys.

Thanks

Check and make sure it's not your exhaust hitting on anything first. I get a little vibration from my exhaust now and then.

You could certainly try a one-piece driveshaft, but they are expensive. Just make sure your center brace is solid and not vibrating.

I do have 1 piece driveshaft and love it. Center bearing goes bad over the time on stock one. Check my thread...

Make sure the bolts aren't loose in the dampener. Mine was clunking for a while, thought it was a bad trans mount. I had one bolt that completely fell out, another one missing a nut, and another that wasn't even finger tight. I would say go with a one piece one though.

Hey Waitn,Just a thought. When you put the carrier bearing hold down back on, did you put in on upside down? If upside down it won't make proper contact and at high speeds may vibrate.. was putting my back in today and took some time to look at the bracket for the shaft carrier bearing and noticed there is only one way to put it back in. The slotted side (no washers by bolt holes) goes in first and then the smooth piece with washers is last. Would hate to see ya buy parts and find out it is something simple like this. Good luck.

Just got my drive shaft back - had a professional install serviceable u joints & then balance .

Took off, & still have the rumble.... Could I have done something to the diff., when I put the D/S in....... The sound is definately in the back....

At the top end of all gears, if I put it in nuetral, or put the clutch in & coast, the sound continues to rumble???

What does a wheel bearing sound like in the rear when it goes???

My interior is now done & I want to enjoy the car for the last month os summer, this rumble is annoying the hell out of me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any comments would be appreciated
