+ on coilover upgrade, bucket seat and bushings and strut tower bars....

i was drifting (well "trying" learning how to control etc...) a stock KA24e with just welded and short air intake, and i must say not having coils and bucket seat really limits what you will learn (talking specially on the bucket seat part... the coils help a lot, bodyroll really makes some things HARDER do understand about your car...)

Anyways appart from saying some extra repeated tips... :P i always wondered what was the use for the Subframe collars..... those allumium things betwheen the frame and bushing......??? :D

1. LSD. get a nice 2 way LSD. Nismo, Kaaz, Tomei, OS Giken, Cusco all make them. Don't go with the welded crap. Do it right the first time. This WILL require you to save some money. LSDs aren't cheap.2. Coilovers. These are going to drop your car low and stiffen up the ride of the car, Again, please choose something good. Cusco, HKS, Zeal, Tein, Stance, etc. Stay away from Megan stuff. I don't know about you, but I like doing things the right way the first time.

3. Bucket seat. You have no idea how nice it is to have a bucket seat. Nothing sucks more than trying to drift the car around and having your *** slide all around on a stock seat.

Get these three things first. They are going to be pricy, but they are some of the most expensive things you are going to need overall. Might as well get them out of the way first, right?

After that, you could move onto beteer wheels/tires, aftermarket suspension arms.

You can and will do just fine with a stock KA.Trust me.
thanks! yea i did some research last night about the bushings, spacers, coilovers ec. i do have some cash on me right now so ill start with some suspension upgrades like new swaybars and subframe spacers and new bushings. i didnt realized that lsd were that expensive. 799 the cheapest one i found

I'd hold off on swaybars, subframe spacers, new bushings.

If you DON'T have any swaybars on the car yet, then ok, it might be worthwhile to get a nice rear one.

subframe spacers are super cheap, I guess you could justify them. It's not hard to come up with like $80 or however much they are.new bushings... I'd pass.

Years ago, my buddy had a STOCK s14. everything was completely normal. I helped him out and the first thing he bought was aTomei 2 way LSD. He went to some events after that and you could tell he made a wise choice. The car was still on stock suspension and wheels and all that. but when he was out there sliding, it was very smooth. The LSD will work wonders. Trust me.I went from a S14 with open diff, to a S14 with a 2 way LSD. Night and day difference. No exaggeration there.

After that, I'm not sure if I'd go with the coilovers or seat. Both are going to be very beneficial. You can get a Buddy Club seat for pretty cheap.I daily drove a Bride Zeros for 3 or 4 years. Trust me, it isn't that bad. Go google that seat and you'll see it is one of the crazy bucket seats.

At a local drift event, I was able to drive a guy's S13. Pretty much stock S13. LSD, stock seat, coilovers. It was easy to slide and the power was fine, but I could not get over the stock seat. It was so hard to concentrate on driving while bracing your legs against the door and center console. A bucket seat is necessary.

Enjoy.

well i have a sway bar on both ends R and F. about the subframe spacers i read it is vital to have those on older cars for drifting. if not i could damage the frame etc. i was looking how to change the spacers on the subframe and looked like a quite a bit of work i would have to take the whole subframe off, but u gotta do what u gotta do i guess.

and yea thanks for help BrianHarte!

Keep those sway bars then.Don't worry about spending money in that area (yet).it is NOT vital to get subframe spacers.

I ran my 1995 s14 for a year or two without them.Like I said, they are pretty cheap, so if you want them, go for it.They will make a minimal impact though.

I suck at cars.I put subframe spacers in by myself. You just loosen bolts/nuts and slip them in.You do NOT have to take the whole subframe off. (I know I didn't)

A new Bride seat should be no less than about $700.It's possible to find used ones for cheaper though.

I have had Brides in both my cars. I would be careful with the new line of them. There are a lot of fakes going around. I don't think there are many fake Bride BUCKETS though...

I mean that if you get subframe spacers, I don't think you'll will notice some huge difference in how the car drifts.

Link the seat here.

^ He means they won't make much of a difference. Minimal at most. The ride will become stiffer btw, basically all suspension upgrades will make your ride stiffer.

BH is right, there are a ton of fake Brides going around especially on Ebay. Just be careful and don't get ripped off. Make sure you know what you are getting.

im not a real expert on this does all the bucket seats fit in all cars? or you need to get specific rails/sliders just for your car?

all buckets should be interchangeable as long as you get the specific seat rails for your car and the rite brackets for the seat...... buckets usually use side brackets and reclineables use bottom braces.... if you get a reclineable bucket that you would use for drifting then i suggest getting one with side mount brackets like the BRIDE GIAS seat .... side brackets were designed to handle side to side movement holding for all kinds of racing

For a Bride seat like the one I posted, you would need to get a specific seat RAIL to fit your car. The Bride "FG" rail is the most popular for the bucket seats. This is what I have.

Bride is a nice brand name, but any bucket seat will work. I spent 6 months searching the net untill i found a set i like and the price was amazing. I got both of mine on clearance for $300, plus another $150 for shipping. I got them from full race in cali. I then made my own seat brackets, which turned out like crap. I was sitting too high in the car. Later I went on FRsport and bought some nagaski seat rails for $200 each. I over paid. I love em.... but the price still makes me cry at night. I have sat in my seats, my buddys sparco, my other buddies corbeau, and another friends bride seat. All of them were in S13. I couldnt feel a difference. Buckets rock in general, brand names are just brand names.

Here are my seats. This is an old pic. These are mounted with the seat rails i made, so you will notice that they sit high. I dont have any recent pic of my new rails.

BrianHarte- It sounds like your made of money bro!

I run a welded diff. Its the perfect solution for drifting the 240sx. 100% locked rear wheels all of the time, and you dont have to spend a couple of pay checks on it.

Also strut braces are cheap and help to stiffen the car up nicely.

Add an aftermarket/home made intake pipe with cone filter to let the engine breath a little better.

You can also advance the timing a few degrees and run higher octane pump gas.

Getting rid of the cat and mufflers for straight pipe will help too, although it will be louder...

Oh, and for a seat, I found a used 1 peice momo bucket with 5 point harness for 100 dollars. I made my own rails and wow what a difference. It might not look as good as a brand new Bride, but I didnt spend an arm and a leg on it either.

Well... I'm not.I do enjoy quality parts and I buy them. I want a car full of GREAT parts rather than a car with parts I'd be embarassed to tell people about.

How to build an awesome drift car in four basic steps:

1. Weld the diff.2. Coilovers/lower car.3. Big wheels.4. Aero.

How comfortable are your guys' buckets? Would you be fine going on, lets say a 1000 mile road trip? They look pretty comfy but good enough for a decent daily?

Being a broke high school student that likes to occasionally drive spirited, i did the following:- I got some decent lowering springs/shocks- I changed all the fluids- I replaced brake pads- Finally I got a j30 vlsd from the junkyard All in all i spent about $380 to have a basic setup to drift. Mind you this is my DD and i dont track my car, so it's a right balance for my driving.Thats my Two Cents.

I just got it because it was a cheaper alternative to buying a new $500~$800 LSD. i mean $60 for a VLSD is better than a stock open diff IMO

Hmmm....

I <3 Threads like this.

If you really want to drift and modify your car and all that funtastic stuff then don't do a thing.

Drive the car stock and find what you don't like or what's broken or could be better and then modify that. From there work your way up to more expensive mods and engine swaps and all the stuff. You should understand what each mod does to your car and why it does that. I drove my car stock for about 3 months and then welded the differential because I needed an easy way to lock up the rear end. From there I got some new tie rods and angle spacers so that my steering felt better while drifting. Now I'm getting to the point where I need new suspension arms and more power and I have the means to get it.

And just as food for thought, you WILL hit a curb, pole, barrier, cone, wall or other damaging thing when you're learning and down the line. So you might want to stay away from expensive mods while your learning... Or Not.

In the end, it's your car. Get out and rock and be awesome and who the heck cares.

^ i totally agree about slowly building your car and feeling the differences in the mods. Also all my friends told me I would hit something when I drift. I went all last year without hitting anything. This year I had more balls and sometimes i got the mentality of go big or go home. I spun out and dented a rim once. The second time i took the corner to fast and started to late. I broke my fender on a coupe bails of hay. I would save the aero for later when your more experienced.

as for my seat, i have driven in it all day. I have slept in it. Super comfy!
