hey i just recently got my 91 s13 5speed and i know quite a bit about cars and such in fact i did a lot of work to get it running better than it did. question do i need to go all crazy with engine mods like cams, crankshaft, turbo upgrade and such, same thing for suspension and drive train. Like what are the basic modifications for the car to start drifting?

i don't drift but i hear coilovers are a good start. and some kind of LSD. and also replacing suspension parts are a good start. you don't really need power, hell i hear people drift stock 240's with open diff.

well i have the first two things i listed...maybe i should start drifting...

^ Yes, but you can keep the same ratio. I would personally gear it a little higher for better highway driving and top end but it's ok where it's at. If you don't think a stock KA will have enough power, talk to Brian Harte on here, he seems to have done just fine.

i say if u want to start beef up the suspension and get a lsd or weld it for a cheap start. but ur'll have to rely on enter speed and a not very gripy tires

SEARCH!!! All this has been covered too many times. I am being nice and helping you out but others will not be so kind, especially Brian Harte lol.

Here's the drifting FAQ. If you scroll down it has info on LSD's. Remember, SEARCH, or be prepared to get flamed.

^^ What do you mean? They are spacers not the actual bushings. They go inbetween the bushing & the subframe.

Bro, you can drift any stock RWD car. http://video.google.com/videop...82211

Watch that video or download it as a torrent, and search, search, search.

Good luck DK!

I will tell you to buy a few things to start off with.Listen to me.

1. LSD. get a nice 2 way LSD. Nismo, Kaaz, Tomei, OS Giken, Cusco all make them. Don't go with the welded crap. Do it right the first time. This WILL require you to save some money. LSDs aren't cheap.2. Coilovers. These are going to drop your car low and stiffen up the ride of the car, Again, please choose something good. Cusco, HKS, Zeal, Tein, Stance, etc. Stay away from Megan stuff. I don't know about you, but I like doing things the right way the first time.

3. Bucket seat. You have no idea how nice it is to have a bucket seat. Nothing sucks more than trying to drift the car around and having your *** slide all around on a stock seat.

Get these three things first. They are going to be pricy, but they are some of the most expensive things you are going to need overall. Might as well get them out of the way first, right?

After that, you could move onto beteer wheels/tires, aftermarket suspension arms.

You can and will do just fine with a stock KA.Trust me.

^ Brian Harte has spoken. Btw, what's your opinion on VLSDs? Imma be gettin in to this too sometime. It's gonna be my DD aswell though. I already got JIC FLT-TAR coils too. And I just got some s14 seats lol.

Well, I started with a 2 way LSD. I could never see myself downgrading. I would just get a "real" diff to begin with.

S14 seats - not gonna cut it. Get a real bucket seat (in my opinion)

love, me

vlsd's suck for all out track drifting. 2way, or welded is the way to go. if welded, make sure it's done by someone who knows waht the hell their doing. vlsd's are fine for dd imo. i have a welded in mine. the clunking and chirping is annoying, but ive gotten use to it. a good seat to look into is the r32 gtr seat. i just picked up one for my s13. mad comfy and not a hassle to get in and out of like a true bucket.

im also in the process of getting my car ready for the 09 season. gl

why does your welded diff "clunk"?

also, getting in and out of a bucket seat isn't a hassle.A bucket will hold you in 10x better than any OEM Nissan seat you could imagine

but some of them can be pretty tricky.. my old dirt track car had a kirkey in it and i swear, if you werent a contortionist you werent meant to sit in it. dont get me wrong though it was a FANTASTIC seat. you didnt go anywhere once you were strapped into that baby...

leaky output shaft i think. anywho for dd. id take a gtr seat over a true bucket. for track only, u true bucket is legit. also, being that he's new to the drift seen, i don't think he'll be gettin slidewayz at 60+ wich is where a bucket comes in handy. just my 2cents. rad s14 btw

Nothing

Go drift. Wait until something breaks. Replace it with something more sturdy then original.

Once you get a hang of it you will know yourself what upgrades you need in order to improve.

I got coilovers first. I drifted that for a year. Then I got a welded diff and gutted my hatch. I also bought fiberglass bucket seats. Like brian said, Difting while sliding in your own seat is really annoying. Now my 240 has whats posted above, plus a few extras. The only power mods I have are intake, header and exhaust. Those didnt do much. I must say, one of my favorit mods was my stage 2 ACT clutch w/ a 6 puck unsprung. I clutch kick more then any other technique. I daily drive my car and dont mind my really strong clutch, and i enjoy my welded diff. It makes me laugh when people look at me in parking lots. And i dont notice it any other time.
