I was out getting some practice drifting in my 94 Q45 last night. I was following a turbo 240sx that actually knows what he's doing. It was going pretty well until I hit a curb.

The rear wheel hit the curb and bent pretty much all the suspension components. The one of the lower Control mounts broke off the subframe and the rear facing link bar is broke. The wheel isn't broken and the tire is fine.

I don't have any pics of the damage yet, because I had to call a tow truck to pick me up.

Before anyone starts telling me how dumb I am, I realize that I was acting retarded. I'm repairing all the damage myself, and paying for everything out of pocket!

Heres a link to the video. I edited it since it was 35min long. Later I'll get the videos of my buddy filming from the side of the road. I had my camera wedged between the passenger headresthttp://www.minisinmotion.com/V...e.wmv

im sure there is some brilliant explination to the reason why you posted a video of you drifting a Q and messing it up?

its a shame you didnt do it properly. Didnt even leave it in 1st gear, you could see the trans shifting!

It true that I don't know anything about drifting. Other than the fact that is fun. That is the first time I've ever went sideways in that car on purpose. And it's not often that you see a video of someone messing up. If you want to look down on me for attempting something I want to get better at, then go right ahead. Lucky for me, I have enough mechanical skills to diagnose the problem and fix it.

Just a bit of good info, the stock wheels are very durable! I assumed that it would have snapped. I got a friend's picture off his phone from last night. Now I must get started on the repairs.

aw man, that's too bad.

You guys should stop beating him up. As he said in his first post, he knew it wasn't smart....he's not on here crying about it, he's just sharing the video. I'd prefer to seeing it to not, and that was his intention. I doubt there's one person who is a talented drifter who hasn't kissed a curb once or twice...

Car sounds GREAT...that stock exhaust? Makes my y33 sounds lameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.......

sorry to hear about it man, find a larger parking lot next time!

If you're -really- serious about drifting, go get a rusty old 240SX or Miata and beat on it. 1.6L MX-5s are especially cheap these days.

Don't beat on the beautiful luxury cars.

Yes, yesterday a bad day for NICO dudes.

Some bone head who looks a lot like me decided to race a mustang and split off to the right across three of four lanes and hammer it in plain view of the five O. The dude seemed cool and I thought he may take it easy on me but noooooooo. I get to have a nice little visit with the magistrate.

Name withheld pending intelligence test.

Sorry to hear of your duhness, you are not alone.

Pete? What? Oh man... I didn't think I'd be hearing a "duh" confession from you... bummer.

Well, good luck. I hope that the magistrate looks favorably on your appearance.

I was in the German car---it is just tooooooooooo d a m n good. You touch the gas and you're doing 100. 140 feels like 60 in the Q.

It's the same here in Iowa, talk to the magistrate. My 540i needs new thrust arms as it has the 50mph shimmy. The best fix for that is to go the speed the car feels most planted and happy cruising, about 95mph.

Is that what it is? I was poking through http://www.bimmer.info and a million causes were named, including dirty wheels. My temp-fix was, as well, just cruise at a higher speed.

On most of the bimmers, yeah, that's what the cause is. I know the E12 didn't have the thrust arm front suspension setup so it didn't have that. You bought a BMW?

Bought and sold a 1990 525i for profit. I regret being greedy and letting it go.

When I picked up this exceptionally maintained pebble sand '90 Q in California, I was pleased but didn't get the "Wow, I'm home again!" feeling I was hoping for. I think three weeks with the E34 spoiled it.

Kinda weird the EXACT thing happened to me last year in my Q. Bent the wheel in the same spot and angle too

That was definitely a pain in the rear to fix and it was before I knew anything about suspension or I would have just upgraded everything with 300zx parts.

I got the rear suspension apart last night. I had to pay $17 for a 36mm socket to get the CV shaft bolt off. Its not as bad as I first thought, the lower Control arm is horribly bent up, and the (rear most) upper arm is a little tweaked.

I'm going to the salvage yard soon, I'm going to go ahead an get the lower control arm, the track bar, and both upper arms just to be on the safe side. Once I get it together, I'm going to the alignment shop! LOL

I don't want to be off-topic...but I have to pitch in to defend newbs at their tryings!Past weekend we (few brave souls) have gon on a bike ride(after some nasty weather we had). One of us got ZX10R sweet ride I'll tell ya!He has just broken it in...so he could open it up. The dude has been riding for a bit over a year. So, we're cruising and there is a fighter-looking Saleen cruising along... After aquick sign exchangethe ZX and Saleen went at it! I'd say from 60 and up speed we're talking about. Afer 3-4 tries Saleen had no chance at coming even close at catching ZX . That was quite a sight, ZX wheeling every time twisting the throtle 4-5th gear (freaking impresive). I must say they've hit speeds over 140 ....I am very impressed with ZX ...Saleen dude was slightly upset ....We left him with thumb up I think you have to build your confidence. How do you learn othrevise?!Cheers!

Right, I'd rather see someone tear around in the Q (I have) than see all these C5 corvettes being babied around by 50-70 yr old guys on the weekends. Good vid and good job of including the part where it hit the curb. I bet a lot of people would have edited that part out instead of admit mistakes. As for the Saleen VS. ZX-10R, that mustang driver must be an idiot to think his car could take a liter bike... although I've seen it done several times, just not without the help of serious forced induction or nitrous.

By the way, I'm assuming it was a Saleen mustang. If it was the twin turbo S7, then I would have given it a good shot at keeping up with the bike if the driver was willing to wring it out. It was a Saleen mustang, right?

OUCH! Thanks for sharing, cool video up until the crash and even that was ok since it's not mine! hehe. Nothing wrong with driving the Q hard especially if you're prepared to fix it when you break it. The Q's can be bought as cheap (or cheaper) than a 240 or other beater, why not drift the Q. Have fun man, just don't hurt anybody!

No word of a line I know what it feels like to race, drift, 360, 180 but mine was done in an 81 Corvette which I still own. I watched the video and as much as it was exhilerating, I was also cringing. Trust me after several years of the above I decided that I could have bought a new car for all the costs of repairs and I wasn't bad at racing either....held 3rd in my class most of the time. Hey, I'm not flaming you......do what ya gotta do but please be safe.....I lost a future son-in-law to this kinda thing and now I own his Q45.

I like your point... I paid $1400 for the car. I don't think that I have seen as good a deal as that. I wasn't able to get all the repairs finished today unfortunatelythe junk yard car didn't have a upper C arm! So tomorrow I have to go almost 70miles to another yard to get a $20 part.

I really want to swap the VH45 into a 240sx, but I can't bare to part with the Q so quickly. And I my other ride isn't a very good daily driver.I will be going to the next drift meet we have down here!

Wow. I didn't know you could drift in a Q. Did you have to hit the E brake? It's looks quite cumbersome to push in the parking brake and pop it out. I want to go do donuts and drift in my Q when it snows more. My college parking lot at night is a great place to do it. Did you have your headlights on? It looked pretty dark in the Q. Nice headunit.

Any tips on for a new drifter? I have a good grasp of it in theory, but as far as applied practice and experience, I have none. Please help.
