While the Q has a strong tendency to understeer like a FWD car, you dont need the e-brake to get the tail out. If you keep it in 1st gear, you can put more than enough power down to initiate a slide.

Be prepared, because the change from understeer to oversteer isn't graceful or elegant like a sports car. One minute you're going head on into a wall, and in a second your tail is spinning. The weight makes it hard to control.

Seriously, if drifting is your hobby, get a 240.

No. it was a bright Yellow Saleen (I didn't now the model until now)I don't know the skills of Saleen driver, our guy was fairly new to supersport. Saleen driver, who I couldn't see well, was revving it pretty high! I could hear it pretty good through the wind noise and buzz of bike's engine. If I were a bit more crazy, I would have traded my ST1300 for a Busa or ZX14 in a heart beat. I cant ride long Supersport, my wrists and back(from downhill biking injuries)...get so sore there is no pleasure! That Saleen tried hard to catch up, but initial ZX explosion was astounding!ZX10R is a gentle monster in right hands!Cheers! Just like it, but YELLOW...

I ride comfy ST1300, I could ride it pretty hard, rip some twisties ...but nothing even close to what ZX can do! I don't know what ST is capable 0-60 I would say 3-4 sec braket! It is pretty heavy! Also, I tried to do some wheelies, very dificuilt nose is too heavy! I lifts nose up with no probs, but it wont stay up for long!Cheers!

Still a little fuzzy on the whole drifting in a Q thing. So as long as the ground is wet (so i don't shred my tires), I keep it first gear and turn the wheel? First gear switches to second at what point on the speedometer? Like keep it below 30mph? I've only had my Q for 12 days and haven't driven it too much. I know how powerful it is and i want to have fun with that power without destroying my car. Please Q experts, shower me with your Q knowledge when it comes to just having fun with it. My Q is a 92 stock with a light gray interior and a black body. Looks great. When the ground get slick, I really want to let loose.

I'm noticed a yellow light in my HUD that says SLIP when I'm turning or if I hit a bump on the highway. What's that for? My Q didn't come with a manual so I'm at a loss for everything. I don't mean to sound annoying but I really need help with my Q. Seriously.

Sorry to be off topic, but I went to Best Buy and they wanted me to shell out an extra 70 to install a Sony cd-player head unit in my Q. They said it was because I have a Bose system and they have to "by-pass" it. No clue what that means. Please help. I don't understand, especially since I have a Blaupunkt headunit that came with the car when I bought it. It looks stock since it has a cassette player with CD Changer controls.

Any help is appreciated.

Don't drift your Q until you've updated the chain guides. Make a new thread for your tech questions so we can keep things organized.

Ahh. Ok. This chain guide replacement, does this apply to all Q's? Like did it come from the factory like that?

I don't know if the chain guide replacement is covered under my 12-month powertrain warranty.

Yea that transition to oversteer used to KILL me every time I got the back end under control but I soon learned to compensate accordingly. I do not condone drifting in this massive luxury car, BUT I do enjoy how easy it is compared to my old stock '89 240. I definitely only do it to show off to my tuner friends and have no interest in making it a habit so no reason to get another 240

you might be able to get them to replace the guides if you can have htem open it up and prove that the guides are broken.

Who the hell wants to do that? And then what will I drive while my Q is in the shop? No way.

I'll get the guides fixed. Don't know when though. Hopefully during spring break.

One of us got ZX10R sweet ride I'll tell ya!He has just broken it in...so he could open it up. The dude has been riding for a bit over a year. So, we're cruising and there is a fighter-looking Saleen cruising along... After aquick sign exchangethe ZX and Saleen went at it! I'd say from 60 and up speed we're talking about. Afer 3-4 tries Saleen had no chance at coming even close at catching ZX . That was quite a sight, ZX wheeling every time twisting the throtle 4-5th gear (freaking impresive). I must say they've hit speeds over 140 ....I am very impressed with ZX ...Saleen dude was slightly upset ....We left him with thumb up I think you have to build your confidence. How do you learn othrevise?!Cheers!

and to stay on topic the q45 is too heavy and is automatic. you can't effectively drift with these variables.

you should get a nissan silvia aka 240sx or a Hachi-Roku aka toyota corrolla. mayebe not the hachi-roku because us spec put it at FWD and no turbo boo!!!

these can be had for dirt cheap. matter of fact i'm looking at a 240sx to due a full japanese spec conversion on ebay right now.

I wasn't talking about drifting as far as competitions and what not. I was just talking about when it gets slippery in an empty parking lot. Jut messing around with my roommates and what not. That can be done right?

Yeah, that should be fine with the Q. The nice thing about trying to use a heavy car for a drifter (even if it's just for little periods of fun) is that it makes you a better driver in slick conditions and really makes it harder to control compared to a small light car. I know my '89 IROC camaro was VERY predictable in a slide but still much more difficult to control than my '90 Miata when the back end whips back around. Now, my Q45 is even more difficult to slide with control than the camaro and my 540i BMW is even harder to get a handle on than the Q45. If you can master the slides of a Q45, once you get in a 350Z, 240sx, miata... it'll be cake and you'll probably have more "skillz" than someone who started out with one of those cars... unless they practiced a lot more than you.
