Alright so I was challenged by two of my friends, in a drag race. I'm not worried about the Grand Am GT, I think my 240 will be able to take that but what about the Chevy. Its a 1990 2500, 5.0L V-8 engine. By the time I race I'll have an intake on my car thats it. The race will prolly be a 1/4 mile. So will I be able to take him? knowing him he'll probably want to bet money to.

You mean a chevy pickup right? You might stand a chance...I dunno, my dad's new silverado can move quite well though.

Well what kinda Grand Am is it? 2 Door? 4? 2.4 I4? the V6? There's alot of variables...manual or auto? My ex has a 96 2 door GT with the 4 banger and a manual transmission. The thing was pretty quick but I'm not sure that it's faster than a well driven manual 240...

The chevy truck will pull you hard, but you should be able to run him down in the 1/4 with some good driving. The Grand Am GT is will stomp both of you, especially if it's a newer model. But it'll be fun either way!!:icon18

a newer late model grand am gt with the 3400 v6 will romp on yo @$$ pretty good :)

As for the truck, I've beaten them in my 89 so if you can drive you should be ok. don't do a light to light run because trucks are very torquey, he'll most likely get you out of the hole and kinda leap ahead, but you should be able to run him down quick.

Oh shiat, I just noticed you said a 1990 chevy pickup, you'll put a hurtin on him i think. The older pickups here I lay the smack down on.....in my 240 :)

you'll beat the truck, and i don think you have a GT if you only have a 4cyl grand am, the GTs come with a v6, which would beat you cause it has around 21ohp, however the 4cyl is a joke, you'll walk him easily, i walk the v6s in my altima, and with that said, my frineds 5spd s13 fastback beats me, wel its close, i may get him in the 1/4, and he has the 'DE' motor

the 2500 will lose(high 16's at best for a 1500, 2500 is prolly a lot heavier with the same engine).

the grand am will win. way more power and not much more weight.

your 240 will be in between

the truck has a v8? fi it's a 305 (around 5.0) you are screwed. If it's the stock motor in the truck it might be agod race

The only way that truck will win is if you absolutely can not drive, try to start in 2nd gear, try to race him in reverse, or if its a tug of war between him and your 240.

Whether its a 305, or 350. Trust me I know, I've driven them plenty, and I've raced them in my 240sx. You will not lose to the truck. (unless you can not drive like earlier stated :) )

A 2000 Grand Am GT is a 3400 6cyl, 4 speed auto. He'll burn you pretty good trust me :)

GTs can come 4 banger. I've driven them.GT basically means fake dual exhaust and a spolier thingy is what my experience has been.

If it's 4 banger auto, launch well and you'll walk all over it.

The late model GTs to my knowledge did not come in 4 cyl trim.

Either that, or every last one in my city has the v6 option. (which I doubt)

I think you're talking about the model prior to the later ones, (95 for example) where indeed they could have a 4 banger with the dual exit pipes, spoiler, and marginal differences in ground effects.

To my knowledge the later models in GT trim all came with the 3400 v6. (the latter which was not available in years prior, but just a 3.1/3100 v6)

My dad's got an '03 2500HD with the 6.0L, and it feels pretty quick, although that could just be the 360 lbs of torque.

Remember, a full size pick up wieghs alot, and I believe the 2500s are heavier. Not to mention they're geared differently. But if I raced someone in my dad's truck I would definately lose, because if I even try to mash the gas she'd wanna spin tires. Maybe I should put it in 4WD?

Yeah, I think it was 98 they changed the car.... 97 or 98...

So up until then you could get the lil 4 banger gt.

The '90 305-powered pickups were slow as balls. Same for most Grand Am GT's. It will all come down to driver skill and vehicle condition. Let us know how you do!

so basically your only competition is the Grand Am GT, and if in fact it is a 5cyl auto, you'll take him, ive taken the v6 autos in my car, and our cars are damn near even, however if its a v6 you will have a lil trouble if you dont launch right, however once you get him on launch, itll take him a 95+ mph run to even catch you, much less pass you, trust me, i kow, ive done this race many times ;)

2.4L 150 hp 4 3.4L 170 hp V6 3.4L 175 hp V6

Weight is from 3066 for manual SE coupe to 3129 for GT1 Auto the other models fall between.

I dont think you will get the truck, just my opinion.

none of you know what you are talking about grand am are as slow as my grandmas buick and 2500 pickups run like 18s 240's are in a much better class than any of these. if you do lose you should go home and do a complete tune up because something is wrong if you lose again you might want to consider a motor swap or some driving classes or both

I think I'm on the same side as you from my posts....re-read the replies! :)

I've never seen a 2000+ 2.4liter 4 banger grand am GT, seen the base model grand am with that engine, but certainly not the GT model. Maybe he rebadged it :)

If he has the 4 cyl somehow....I think you'll win.

As with the truck, I'm still amazed at the amount of people here that thinks he'll lose to the truck. A brand new ford f150 v8 short box 2wd drive truck pulled a 20 sec 1/4 at the track last week.....let alone a a truck from 1990.
