Door Sill Clear Vinyl Project

Nissan Rogue forum - Includes Nissan Qashqai and Nissan Dualis as well.

Is $120 a good price to have 3M clear bra installed on my door sills?

if you order more than you actually use on your door sills, save the film. you can apply it to many places. i applied a 12x3 piece to my rear bumper. i always seem to smack my trailer hitch into my bumper when attaching the trailer to the car = now it doesnt scratch my paint up anymore! :) i also attached a couple random pieces in random places on family cars. it works great, and pretty much disappears from view.

prep work is key. if you dont clean & degrease the area well, it will peal off (like any sticker). so make sure you use your dish-washing soap & water solution and clean the area a couple times. its key to remove all wax, road grime, oil from puddles, etc.

hmm... clear vinyl may help with the daily loading/unloading of the stroller. She's dinged the rear a few times.

great minds, think alike! ;)
my dad has a limo service (no limo's just Lincolns & vans) and i applied the clear vinyl to his trunk area due to all the suitcases scuffing the bumper area. worked great!

ImStricken wrote:3m is just a vinyl, and i have never heard of it sealing itself. ill take a look into it. if you apply it with the soapy solution, you wont have bubbles that are a huge pain. i know the area is scratched, so the scratch will hold some air- expect that guys (who are looking to get into this project)
The installer that sold me mine mentioned that it'll seal up once you extract the air/heat it so I just took his word for it. I guess the easy way to tell if it works is whether the vinyl shrinks under heat, if it does then I'd assume it seals with a small wrinkle.

I have a single bubble in my door sills but because it's just the door sills I left it alone (I didn't have a needle).

i wouldnt even care if there are a few bubbles in the door sill area. there is no one in this world that will apply film perfectly, day in and day out. sometimes there will be bubbles even when installed by pro's. heck, i have seen $500+ pro tint installs that had tiny bubbles

You squeegee the vinyl as much as possible, and if necessary pop the bubbles with a needle.

Ok everyone... So I got my 30" x 48" clear vinyl in the mail yesterday... I got bored sitting in the house, so I decided to apply it a couple hours ago... The driver's side strips came out a little rough, with the worst of all 4 being the driver's side rear door with a jagged bottom end... The BEST is the passenger's side rear door which IMO looks professionally done if I do say so myself ;) ...

I may actually end up re-doing the driver's side rear in the near future, but for now here are some pics:

On the passenger's side front door sill, there were little scratches already in the paint! My car has 1100 miles! Crazy... I'm glad I decided to do this mod ;)

well lookie-lookie! look who just saved almost $100!!! ;)

looks great man! and since that area gets beat up anyway by the weather stripping, it wont matter if its done with a tad less care then say tint would need. great job!

in NYC, bumping each other's cars while parking is the NYC way of saying "HELLO" to someones car LOL i just dont give a damn anymore. my maxima was beat to sh*t from nyc, i didnt even bother fixing it lol
thankfully i applied the clear sticker to the center of my bumper for the trailer hitch not to scratch when attaching it , so it will stop small scuffs from the city as well.

Same with Chicago, I will have to take a pic of my rear bumper, even though it pisses me off every time I look at it
I can't tell you how many times I have seen people literally ramming into another car while parallel parking

At some point here I am going to install the tow harness and get a new rear bumper, which will have to be professionally painted, which I'm sure will cost a lot.

IN NYC, heck- even brooklyn = that would end up killing about 75% of the parking spots available. every inch counts, and that thing takes away about 4-5inches which results in spots you cant fit in lolol

It would but I dont have the tow package/tow hook, so Id have nothing to connect it to. The rear bull bar serves the same purpose though... albeit while being closer to the bumper
