ok gvuys u seem to be on a roll with dile problems... well heres mine.. ..and its only done it after i converted to 5spd...but anyways..car idles around 800 +/- ..it doesnt idle low it doesnt idlke high, its just about rihgt...BUt when i rev it or and going down the road an put it in neutral it decelerate but once the rpoms get to around 1500 it stays there for like 10 secs+ then drops back to normal idle...well tonight i removed the itnake, cleaned the throttle body up (kinda grimmy in there) and checked to see if my maf was dirty (that thing wa sreally clean).. and cleaned up my air filter ... but othing helps.. my car seems to have better throttle responce and delerate better now that i cleaned it, but my idle still doesn the sma ething... is there a vacuum line on the back of the motor that i might of unhook when doing my 5spd swap??

thansk in advance

doesnt the auto-transmission have a vent tube? i havent ever seen.. but i know some trannys have that. i dont know what year your car is, but if the AIR. valve is clogged up, it can promote some pretty gay idle.. (the valve that goes from the intake filter, into the exhaust stream, on the right hand side of the engine bay).. thats a pretty big problem. the Idle air control on the back of the intake manifold may possibly be bad. next time you experience the high idle, tap the IAC with a screwdrivers handle, and see if the idle settles.. if it does, replace it, and enjoy an idle.. if it does nothing, clean the AIR valve damn good, then see what happens.. and check all of your rubber hoses for cracks.. (exp the PCV hose, and the ones that are under the intake manifold)

That's a sticky from the Nissan Online Mechanic forum, and it can help you diagnose/solve a lot of different driveability problems.

Questions like this usually get better answers in the Online Mechanic forum, since that is where the real mechanics are. The KA forum is more for people with questions regarding performance, not maintenance.

TXCumtrensh, are you talking about the AIV that sits behind the airbox next to the header? (The AIR valve may be something totally different, but I have never heard of it.) That can get clogged and cleaning or removing it will fix it, but that doesn't cause your idle to stay around 1500 then drop. Mine does the same thing you are describing, and I just thought it was normal. When I press the clutch it kinda hovers around 1k for a second then drops back to 700 or so. I thought it didnt happen with the auto because there was no clutch engaging/disengaging, so it was just something that came with a manual transmission. My mom's Saab (EJ20) does the same thing, so like I said Im assuming its normal.

also im pretty sure im not pulling any codes.. i flip it to self diagnostic and no lights...no cel... so i dont know where to look.

i have a 5spd now.. i swaped out.. but its not normal..when i come to a stop it hold 1500 or so if i let the clutch out a bit itll start to drop as the load is incread on the flywheel, but when i push the clutch in and dont touch to throttle itll jump back up to 1500...after 10 secs or so itlle setting at 800..i dont see the aiv having anything to do with this...ill try to tap the iacv or whatever it is on the back of the mani.. i was thinkin tps, but wouldnt my idle kinda be eratic not the same thing...most problems with tps ive dealt with go up to like 2k then drop to 400 and repeat over and over being reaklly annoying lol
