I agree. Props to his mom. She also has a sense of humor. I chuckled when It reported she said she was "stunned".

Why wouldn't I?

No, people who want a "moment in the spotlight" need to EARN it.

Go be on American Idol or some gay s***. Stay the hell off the field unless you pay your dues.

You have to understand, the Supreme Court ruled that the police have no duty to protect and/or serve the individual.

an update. The phlabby Phillie Phan that did the belly flop in centerfield had announced his stunt was intentional to prove some weird point that tazers were unnecessary. IMHO they shoulda tazed his lazy butt anyway. ;) . While the dumpy dork was proving his point, he displayed some Nala-like intelligence by carrying out the stunt with marijuana in his pocket. So in addition to trespassing, disturbing the peace, charges,, he's getting charged with drug possession.

Last evening, much to the dismay of the Philly fan base, not only did no idiots storm the field, the Phillies announced only unarmed Phillie security people will chase idiots on the field. The Philadelphia police, the ones with tazers in addition to guns, will only assist if a particular incident gets out of hand. Expect boos from the stands.

Go Mets.

Right, because the usage of a weapon on an unarmed citizen is always the right way to handle things...

That sounds awesome! Imagine how much fun it'd be if you could dodge a bunch of obese ballpark security guards. Eventually the crowd would have to start clapping for you for running around a group of 8 imbeciles.

You pansy.

He's trespassing. In fact, if he crossed a physical barrier, he's breaking and entering.

So, let's say he broke into my shop. Do I have the right to blast him? How about my home? Can I put a few rounds into a home invader? Hell yes I can, armed or not. What's the difference?

Kid broke the law. Got Taser'ed. Quit crying.

He's lucky he didn't get a 101-mph fastball upside his douche-bro melon.

Interesting, I just looked over the "Castle Law" for AZ. I didn't realize that you guys could shoot people if you simply believed they're committing, or going to commit, a crime. It doesn't even have to be on your property! LOL.
AZhitman wrote: He's trespassing. In fact, if he crossed a physical barrier, he's breaking and entering.
Based on the breaking and entering part, the police could have gotten away with shooting him. Should they have done that?

It always seems that you are for enacting the full length of the law and affording the harshest punishments allowed. So lets just shoot people for running on the field then. Hell, the owner of the place legally could in Arizona.

"C. A person is presumed to be acting reasonably for the purposes of this section if he THE PERSON is acting to prevent the commission of any of the offenses listed in subsection A of this section...

A. A person is justified in threatening or using both physical force and deadly physical force against another if and to the extent the person reasonably believes that physical force or deadly physical force is immediately necessary to prevent the other's commission of arson of an occupied structure under section 13-1704, burglary in the second or first degree under section 13-1507 or 13-1508, kidnapping under section 13-1304, manslaughter under section 13-1103, second or first degree murder under section 13-1104 or 13-1105, sexual conduct with a minor under section 13-1405, sexual assault under section 13-1406, child molestation under section 13-1410, armed robbery under section 13-1904, or aggravated assault under section 13-1204, subsection A, paragraphs 1 and 2."

It's pretty simple: Don't act like an a$$, you won't get jolted.

The security guy did this chump a favor. A 6'2, 200-lb MLB player with a bat is a much more formidable opponent. Besides, who knows what people are up to these days? What if he'd been carrying a weapon or packing explosives?

I think he should perform community service for the City of Philadelphia this entire summer. God knows they have plenty of garbage that needs to be picked up.

I remember watching the highlight reel a few years back when an outfielder decked a fan that was running on the field! :spitout:

It is unfortunate that people think that way :(

THAT was comedy.

It's happened at football games too. BAD idea.

The best one I saw happened at a soccer match, tho. Dropped the dude like a bad habit. :)

Hes trespassing in a limited-access public venue. Using a weapon on him is a little bit excessive. You cant make a direct legal comparison to laws intended to protect homeowners.

As for the drug arrest, the guy had a pocket full of plants. Yes, plants you can get high with, but still plants.

Dare I say it...

Oh god...

Here it goes:

I agree with PMQ. I feel icky.

So, we just let every attention-seeking little a$$ do as they please until they're satisfied?

Go into Macy's wearing a Speedo, hop up on a display and start leg-humping a mannequin while belting out a Tom Jones ditty off-key and see if you don't encounter a show of force.

He was told to stop. Told to leave. He failed to comply. Zap.

I don't see a problem with the use of force in this instance, considering he was disturbing the peace, failing to comply with a lawful demand, evading capture, and trespassing.

He's welcome to file suit if he feels he was treated unfairly, but this ain't no Rodney King here. That's how the system works.

If he'd shanked the starting pitcher in the neck, people would be wailing, "Why wasn't he stopped?"

There's a compromise between fully armed enforcement and letting everyone rush the field.

Its a bit like how the IRS cannot actually enforce every single law on the books. There's a grey area accepted by society to allow itself to function normally and peacefully.

Yep. It's called "non-lethal force". :)

The IRS analogy don't work - They would if they had the manpower.

They have, and exercise, DISCRETION - which, incidentally, is an integral component of law enforcement as well.

Tangent:

I blame a lot of our security culture on 9/11 (and Broadview ads, lol). Chris Hansen convinced us that pedobear is lurking behind every dark corner, so children never play outside anymore. We put on a TSA security theater show to convince ourselves that the world is safer. The field of private security is outgrowing the rest of the job market because we're convinced that giving a weapon and $9 an hour to a high school dropout with a week of training will make everyone safer.

The terrorists are winning.

For example, police in Boulder CO tend to be more relaxed on marijuana possession. Its a quiet acknowledgment that the law is antiquated and poorly written. The law itself is sometimes a product of collective hysteria, corruption, or the need for legislators to claim victory over an issue.

We're a paranoid bunch, we Americans, and really, it goes back further than 9/11. It has to do with the dangers faced by early settlers in a new world, alone, living on land surrounded by native tribes, and trying to survive. John Winthrop's journals reveal a lot about us. There is a tendency, in more isolated societies, to react to threats with disproportionately greater security or disproportionately unnecessary enforcement. There were several instances when Puritan law was wrongly enforced and innocent people suffered. Fast forward a few hundred years, and it explains how we got to where we are.

Anyone here ever been tazed? It's not fun, but it's hardly a scaring experience. If anything it's humbling to realize that you can be forcefully shut down by a battery and some wires.

Option 1. Get tazed to halt.
Option 2. Get half a** tackled by an overweight security guard running full speed.

I'll take option 1 thank you.
