Yup! I wedge something between the door switch and lock mechanism to turn off the interior lights when I work on my car. My battery is dead from window guide fix, so I have to recharge it soon.

Oh no, I mean having a dome light that has an on/off switch attached so that you can turn it on while the doors are shut. Say if you need to look at a map or something.

Oh, and I just picked up a battery tender JR, works great, but seeing that you are in Texas you probably never put your car away for long periods of time.

I think this is a good idea. Although I'm not all that big on messing with the wiring on my car... just spent a week trying to patch together wiring on my girlfriend's '90 Infiniti. Now the idea of seeing my car's wiring give me shudders!

Anyway. I think it would be a cool idea, and I'd love to see how it would be done. Just the other day I was actually trying to turn on the dome light in the car (I had forgotten what I was in!) and had to just settle for the lights in the mirror. Which didn't do the trick.

This is the one thing I don't like about verts...no on/off switch for the dome lights. But some verts came with the rear view mirror with map lights.

You can find them for sale on there from time to time. Here is a write up that biggie did on how to wire them up: zerothread?id=221045

I've got a map light rear view mirror but I haven't installed it yet, too many other things on the "to do" list.

I know what you mean. This is the setup I want just like other cars.

- Turn off no matter what. Doors open or closed, it's off.- Turn on only when the door is open- Turn on always

I think this is a typical setup.

It's just a standard 3 way switch. On would supply a constant 12v to the light, switched (middle) would put the light on the door switch circuit, and off would break all grounds. You would just have to find a proper place to mount your switch and run the wiring up the a-pillar

Ok, saw this old thread, thought I should add to it... did this yesterday! Theres probably a way to do this under the dash, but I found this to be super easy.

parts: screwdrivers, wire cutters, elec-tape, speaker cable, 2way switch

step1: remove driver side interior rear panel and driver side door sensor (on outside)

step2: follow that wire from the sensor out behind the panel and to the carpet. it should be three wires wrapped in electape

step3: choose a spot to cut and expose the three wires. you will see a blue (door chime) and red (interior lights) and black (ground)

(if you want to get rid of your chime, nows the time to do it)

step4: connect the speaker wires to the red and black, and run those cables anythere you want (under dash, under center con, etc...)

step5: connect 2way switch to speaker wires and if everything works the way it should, that switch will turn the lights on and off.

should work (fingers crossed)

Speaker wires?? Using speaker wires to run a switch for your dome light?

not sure how sunvisors are mounted on a vert as opposed to a hatch/coupe....but I've put j-30 visors on my hatch and they are lighted. Wiring the lights wasn't tough and they throw off a lot of light plus they are hidden
