Well, I will be doing the KS tonight. I will be doing it without pulling the Plenum. Any tips for me?

PLease read my "humble" write-up on KS R+R Get Coolant 1 gal min. Take your time and you'll be done before you know it!No RTV reqired on upper t-stat housing (there is a metal-like gasket). Use specific torque (FSM info) on all bolts where you can use torque wrench!zerothread?id=116280Hope it helps

DUDE, 2 hours my @ss. My car is still out of comission in a friends garage. i worked on it untill 2 am lastnight. I have the left sensor done but the right one is a hold up. It's a pain to get the bolt in there with the metal piping in it's way. I was just to tired to continue.

My harness was wasted as well so I had to fix it since I do not have one.

Just be glad you dont have to pull the plenum. Just keep reminding yourself that!

That's all right. I do "wrenching" for a living. When I talked to Infiniti service writer, I mentioned Turbine Sensor R+R. She said they charge 8 HRS to do that. I am sure with the approach I took it would have taken me 5-6 HRS. Then I asked if they hire "mechanics", she laughed. First time is always a PITA!For driver side KS you would ned either stubby end-wrench or 1/4 drive "shorty" ratchet with shallow 12 mm socket. Take your time, yop can do it!It is SO rewarding not to have a "stupido-retardo" car after all that knuckle- busting, wrench-turning, sweat-braking KS-replacing ordeal! Cheers!

HAHA, I had a buddy helping me and I told him about you. He kept saying "there is no way he did this in 3 hours". The guy is a decent wrench also.

Brake down of a job Fan R+R 15 min, shroud 10 min, Alternator 30-45 min, Different hoses/vaccum lines/wire harneses/air intake 15-25 min, upper t-stat housing with coolant "run" 30-45 min. get the "stinking" coolant hose out 15-20 min. get both KS out 15-25 min. I am not bragging, just saying if I do, I do it as if I were at work auto-pilot is "ON" I can even brake it down according to a flat rate Cheers!

To do the KS without removing the plenum? Only if you're sporting octopus tentacles...or if you remove the engine. Then maybe you can get to them from the rear. The harness might still trip you up.

I can do it. You need to suppy 1 gal of antifreeze. I charge half what Infiniti Dealer charges. I can do it in a day . If you drop it on Sat it'll be ready on Sun. Infiniti of Kirkland labor rate is 125$/hr.

I can do it next two weekends!P.S I don't really drink beer when I work

You should. It's much healthier than drinking antifreeze.

I only use "friendly" antifreeze for doggies and kitties!

There is 100% no chance I would try it without taking off the plenum on a G50..... I like taking shortcuts, but I prefer to keep as much skin on myself as possible!

Heh heh, just took a look, some of the crevices on my 94 seems hard even for my baby niece to reach ... pretty amazing feat.

It seems much crazier than my oil pressure switch, can see it find, but pain in the a$$ to reach and unscrew.

If there was a way, the guys at T3 would have probably found it. The oil pressure switch isn't comparable.

As I can see, pulling the "spider"-plenum ofo of G50 isn't as bad as Y33. I can't see any other way to do KS on G50 w/o plenum R+R. When I got my Old Lady I was slightly intemidated. After doing few things with it, I realized that Nissan ingineers are "smarter" than our "BIG THREE" when it comes down to building cars!

Maybe, but you need to keep the comparisons fair. I still shake my head everytime I work on my Firebird. But I shouldn't compare Infiniti engineering to Pontiac engineering. Maybe Infiniti to Cadillac, or Pontiac to Nissan, and only if they're the same vintage.

Just be glad you are not working on a 3rd gen maxima. .the knock sensor is in the valley of the "V6" Think bottom of the letter V. Getting to it is an all day task.. I'll work on infiniti's KS anytime..

Just get the air intake, fuel press regulator off and you are in business. If you are refering to 3.5L v6. Also, there is only 1 (one) KS. Not as HD as Q45 though Cheers!

Are you sure about that?

Knock sensors on top of the VH45DE:

You just have to wade through all this stuff AFTER removing the runners, fuel rail, plenum, and all the stuff attached to it:

Rob, thanks a lot for the pictures!

I think you just convinced me to replace the KS at 61K when I do my under plenum hose job, even if they don't need it. Damn.

Glad you like them! Here's a good one, with runners and fuel rail still attached:
