How do you know when the car needs a KS replacement?

There is a factory test procedure for continuity which I don't even think works. There is also a test for resistance. Consult is the best tester for it tests values while on a test drive and records it. I have a snap-on that does mimic it close enough, but not like a true consult would.

Like an O2 sensor, the knock sensor just becomes lazy over time and it's "hearing" goes bad.. Just safe to replace every 100k. It is also a good time to replace all the fuel lines and hoses in the plenum area.

Right in the middle of the "X" where the ends of your arrows meet is where the knock sensor is on the VE30DE (92 maxima SE)

The harness should also be replaced along with this and is often overlooked..

Are you sure about that?

Knock sensors on top of the VH45DE:

You just have to wade through all this stuff AFTER removing the runners, fuel rail, plenum, and all the stuff attached to it:
