It can make a difference, but I think that most short ram intake systems don't have sufficient heat shielding. The long tube cold air intakes typically lose the throttle response.

My answer to this was to use the Stillen airbox and the JWT pop-charger. I heat-tape wrapped the entire z-tube, MAF housing and the side and bottom of the airbox. My intake temps are 10-13* above ambient (very slightly higher than stock) and all the added benefit of velocity stack, throttle response and increased air speed and volume.

It makes a difference. Buy one and you'll see. The difference it makes is all in your perception.

You will notice it, but not the same as dropping your 20's in exchange for something smaller and lightweight.

I sold my stock wheels, and I wish I still had them for track use.

I have a medium length ram air intake from Fujita, with the Blox manifold spacer it is intense to say the least. I can break traction pretty damn easy and with the exhaust it's like a new car. Get a setup like tollboothwilley if you want the best results IMO.

Just to add, I just put on the 17's on my 200sx in my sig above, noticed an immediate sluggish throttle response, the new wheels are heavier, taller, and frankly all show... but it's a beater so who cares

Get the JWT pop charger, and a Z tube, which is the intake tubing off a Nissan 350Z. It's highly recommended on this site.

the Z-tube makes great sound if nothing else... suppose to be a top end hp gain... i can believe it since you are directing air straight into the engine versus through a silencer that the stock intake has. The only "flaw" IMO with the stock intake was adding a silencer...

IMO the best bang for your buck is a 5/16th spacer... these gains are noticable in everyday driving since it effects the mid range. It is also a sound increase though, which i happen to love...

I combined them both.

I started out with the JWT pop-charger and heat shield new. The filter is awesome and so is the velocity stack. I didn't like the heat shield at all though. So I bought the Stillen intake new. I kept the airbox but sold the JWT heat shield with the stillen air filter & velocity stack. If you're lucky and pay attention you can find the stuff used for about half price.

Problem with the intake is you need get both intake systems and sell off the extra. Higher initial cost.

Finally, I wrapped it with the tap here:http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/tape_index.php

I used the heat shield tape. Get some of the "cool foil tape" use between the lines. I didnt, and now I wish I had.

Here's a pick of what mine looks like, I painted the heat tape black to match the rest of stuff.

If i had to choose 1, i'd go with the JWT heat heat & popcharger.

I would use the heat tape on the exposed velocity stack though. Since its metal it will conduce the most heat and bring the heat into the intake air.

When you use the heat shield tape I didnt overlap. The connecting sections i would use that cool foil tape to keep the fray down.

After lurking on this forum, I got a JWT Pop Charger and Z Tube off E-bay. It took me about 30 minutes to install both because my neighbor was harassing me. ;-)

I couldn't be happier. Car sounds great on acceleration, seems much stronger and faster. You will notice a difference if you are used to the way your car drives now.

My 5/16 plenum spacer is on it's way, really can't wait! <grin>

Only one problem so far: SLIP- No VDC and Brake lights came on, meaning I need to check rear brakes and brake fluid. Lolz!

I wish my neighbor came bearing gifts! I'm always doing work on my family's vehicles now. I've become the "go to" mechanic somehow.

With knowledge comes wisdom, with wisdom comes your friends and family looking for a tune up or oil change

Isn't that the way

Most mods like this make your car seem faster because of all the padding and weight you've lost from your wallet!

Seriously, why buy anything without seeing objective stats before/after?

Car companies work pretty hard on intake systems and they have lots of resources. Why would they leave the HP on the table?

Sexcpr69,

On a dyno the Fujita short ram adds 9 hp. Where is the RPM band does this power come? Right before redline the power is added but you only experience it right before the shift so its kind of lost in the redline drama.

The idea behind the aftermarket filters is simple. They are designed to allow more air into the motor then a stock air filter. If the motor can get more air the airflow sensor will add more fuel. More fuel = more power.

The G is pretty dang effient already what with two air boxes and two throttle bodies. To really get noticiable power out of the G you would need to change more then just a air filter.

Adding headers and removing the cats, freeer flowing mufflers in combination with a higher flow air filter would be your best bet. Then add a 75hp wet nitrous kit

Jeff, you forget only the 2007+ sedans and 2008+ coupes have dual air intakes. Its been a long time since I've seen you around.

Sexcpr - The HKS filter is good for HP because it filters TERRIBLY. Its the worst kind of filter medium out there. I think that intake looks pretty, and it had some heatshielding with the silicon hose. It doesn't have a velocity stack though, and that filter will let in more crap than you want.

So Mustang wheels fit on the G series? Interesting.

The velocity stack is the piece of metal that the filter wraps onto. It makes the air flow smoothly into a 3" pipe from a 6" diameter filter.
