Type X is what misinformed Nissan enthusuasts call the late model 180SX. You see it is simply a trim model. People think that only the 180SX type X from 1996-1998 came with SR20DET's, but in fact the Type R model came with SR's as well, it just came with different options, ie different radio options, etc. So the proper term would be late model 180SX, since type X is a trim. They made 180X's with "Type X" trim from the early 90's as well so it doesnt exclusively mean later model.
The terms zenki, chuki, and kouki generally mean early, middle, and later. So a kouki 180SX is a 1996-1998 180SX.
J4 is the proper ECU for a later model 180SX blacktop.
