Smurf6x6: Saw an article about the ecotec reaching 1200HP as a sub-magazine of **** (my memory sucks). Of course, not your average ecotec after they were done :)

And to think the ecotec comes in saturns and other GM's with that same bottem end. Kinda scary thought getting blown away by a turbo ION.

gotta love the 7 year powertrain warranty

as far as bang for your buck new cars, I'd say the SRT4 is on the level of the 4th Gen Z28 when it came out in 93.

I noticed they blow off ALL THE TIME too. Like even at 2000 rpms, there not even boost there yet...Ive seen them putting around blowing off like no other. But anyways, I would never buy one, even though they are decently quick, my 240 would take one any day.

There already is a pretty strong aftermaret support for it. Mopar has a number of power upgrades for the SRT-4, including a turbo upgrade. Scary, if it doesn't break.

I would never buy a neon but i wouldnt mind having it. Those things are pretty fast and yeah i heard that they dont last at all but... thats what you would expect from a domestic.

Why is there so much hate for domestics? As a whole, the USDM nissan's are slow compared to any domestic car company. Our fastest USDM production nissan is the 350z, and that is by no means at all "fast."

in additon to what i said earlier. i am happy that the U.S. market is at least trying to get in the sport compact market. i may not like the neon but i sure as hell like it more than some stupid suv. id rather see 20 sr-t's than one suv no matter if it is usdm or jdm.

this girl at my school drives a 350z and i was lookin at it the other day sittin out in the parking lot talkin about it(b/c damm theyre sexy in real life) , it was an auto(one of my 'hater' friends pointed out) so i was like so, its still fast.....then he was like, its not that fast , the new neon can beat it. i knew it was close but i didnt think the srt 4 could beat the Z? anybody have the 0-60 times for both of them?

edit: n/m i found the 0-60 times, anybody have the 1/4 mile for the 350z?

Altima, where is your JDM faith? :-(

Know of their ET/top speed vs. a 300ZX TT?Sure, you have a spool-up (and are said to be "fat"), but they are rated at ~30 more horses.(Then again, I haven't looked up any numbers on anything _but_ HP, so... :D)

Also, Nissan made some pure-racing cars (the ones you can't buy from a [most] car dealership--you know they had to be "fast"...

(Clarification to anyone who gives a damn: a "quick" car isn't necessarily a "fast" car)

The ION redline is supercharged, not turboed, btw.

I know someone from another board who bought one as a daily driver. Which I'd certainly like to be able to do the same.

Completely stock right down to the factory air pressure in all of his tires, full tank of gas, 1000 miles on the clock he ran the following on his outing to the 1/4 mile in the lil beast:

First run: 14.4@98Second run: 14.2@100Third and final of the day: 13.9 @101

His 60' were horrible, even his best 60' of the day was a horrendous 2.3 :)

Good numbers in my book, and probably one of the best bang for the buck cars to buy new right now, bar none. He bought his for 21K.

after reading the last post, my IQ dropped to about 10...how ignorant can you be? how biased can you be? are you trying to set a new world record in those cateogries?

I personally wouldn't buy the srt-4...but I've thought about getting one...they are quite interesting peices of work...I tell you what would get my money, if Nissan brought back the 240 SX and it came with one of those nice 2.5 liters like the new Altima's have equiped with a turbo...i've saw an altima beat a 240 twice...talked about suprised the **** out of me...one of them smoked the tires down...i'm thinking about getting rid of my 240 and getting an altima! (NOT...2-doors better than 4)

I don't understand this either. Is it illegal to like both domestics and imports?

Also, what's up with all of the Neon hate? Is it those stupid "Hi" commercials they ran at the car's launch way back when?

Neons have a pretty impressive history in the SCCA, and besides the headgasket issues with first gen cars, everything I've read has shown that they are very reliable cars.

Anecdotal evidence of reliability isn't worth ****. I don't buy cars based on "my cousin's friend knew a guy who owned a ______ and it sucked." Show me numbers. Show me something that says that the Neon, and not Dodge's product line as a whole, is substantially less reliable than industry average.

Yeah, the base Neon is an economy car. So are Lancers and Imprezas.

I feel like I've made this post a million times, but the whole Import vs. Domestic thing just pisses me off.

I personally like the SRT-4. If I were buying a new car right now, it would be either an SRT-4 or a WRX. I've gone for rides in both cars, and like them both.

What about the EVO, STI or SPEC V?

Lancer = Economy CarImpreza = Economy CarSentra = Economy Car

There are certainly valid criticisms of the SRT-4...this, in my opinion, just isn't one of 'em.

werd, i totally agree with badmojo, heck even the skyline GT-R is base on a *gasp!* FAMILY SEDAN! There are literally tons of "sport" cars that have their roots firmly planeted in econo cars that performence enthusiats concider udder crap (which isnt true most of the time).

plus i dont know about you guys but my 240sx only retailed for $14,500 new, and you would be hard pressed to try and buy it off of me because i like it so much.

Yeah sorry about that wasn't thinking straight my bad lancers and wrx's just seem more than economy though you know what i mean compared to like a civic or cavalier or maybe even a daewoo. Daewoo makes some fast cars now lol:)

First of all thank you to the nissan hater dodge sexer for changing my last posting becasue it hurt their dear heads to relize how unintelligent they are.

Now, thanks to the people who have stated that the neon is a fwd family car that has little to work with, but is considered good because of coping other ideas and putting it into the car. You see, subaru has the horizontal engine, mitsubishi has uncany quality, they both have a starting amount of horse running near 300. What does dodge have . . . . . . . . oh, yeah thats right NOTHING!

Hmmm...what else does Dodge have...

Oh yeah...this.

:D

Anyway, a car like the SRT-4 is good for the entire sport compact segment. I can't wait to see what the other manufacturers do to compete. I suppose the Saturn Ion Redline is the first such response, thought it seems a bit underwhelming on paper so far. Wait, I think that's a different thread. ;)

i think you guys are missing the bigger picture here. dodge is actually trying to market a sport compact car. this means that other big names will look at that and say, "hey we should do that too." this will cause competition, and we all know who will win, the consumer. i say we should be easier on it, its only the first run. i wonder how many people trashed the lancer or impreza when they first came out. im just glad its not a suv.
