I think it might be due to the idler gear (or the reverse gear maybe?) which is rotating very quickly.

Although i might be wrong...just my guess.

ivory is right about why it makes that noise in reverse. clutcless shiftig witout harming the transmission in any way is possible and as they have all siad it takes years to do this properly trill then youre wearing the syncros.

i just had a test on all of this stuff so i do know what i am talkin about. as for the trucks....who here drives one of these trucks AND owns it??? great way to learn though. and those trannies are virtually bullit proof anyway.

i used to do it alot when my clutch was fried ....... took a while to get the exact match without having to pull on the stick before it popped in ..... if you pull while the engine winds down before the match its bad on the synchros like someone else said , if the match is perfect the stick falls into gear without any pressure at all ..... which does no damage whatsoever.... i just find it fun to do other than having a ****ty clutch periodicly

iv only done it once. when i was coming home today after work, i wasnt thinking about driving at all and when i put it into first, i forgot to push in the clutch. when i pushed the lever up, it went in perfectly, no effort at all. guess i was just lucky
