Long story short, my roof is damaged and i wanted to take the opportunity to do something creative with it. naturally i was thinking carbon fiber. any other ideas? (roof scoop, vent, etc.) If not, anyone know where i can get a cf roof?

Search here Or zilvia for the word "CF roof" there is a company that make and sell CF roof For S14 For ~1500$

You need to cut then Rivet the CF Roof Into The Metal A-B And C Pillers....

The company Claim To Cut 70-100Lbs on the wight Of the car....

My Friend Was gonna buy one but he decided to get Sebion CF Doors (Cut 100+Lbs Of the Wight Of the car)

Also they make CF Insert So you can throw the Stock Sun roof And Rivet This CF Panel In....

Sure Hope This Helps x1000

i was looking for the same thing a few months back. somebody in this forum posted a link to some japanese company that makes a CF roof for the S13. However, the weight savings was not substancial enough (less than a pound or so).

I think Kognition Designs does custom CF paneling. They are located in SoCal.

Wow, quick reply!

I'm not looking for weight savings. I'm looking for head-room. I have an S13-DE with the inbuilt and mirrored moonroof. I was looking for a replacement out of CF so I can remove the motorized unit and increase my headroom. My interior will be relatively stripped.

I just thought about the possibility of installing a factory sunroof (removable pop-up), but would rather not nave to mess with it.

I could probably build an insert from carbon fibre, but am looking for one that is pre-made. I will look into Kognition Designs though.

ok so while were all talkin about roofs n ****. If i was able to find an s13 that has a solid steel roof and cut out a section about the same size and in the same area as the sun roof on my car would the section i cut from the other car have the right cure and such to just be able to weld it into place to patch up my sun roof? I mean with out having to do much in the way of shaping and a crap ton of body work to make it not noticable?

yea the roof is just a flimsy piece of metal......a carbon one would be a waste of cash imo. Kind of like carbon fiber trunks. If it has a fiber glass skeleton, chances are it weighs the same if not more than the stocker. The stock trunk is light as hell, 20lbs +/- a pound iirc. It would just let you be able to say "i have a carbon roof/trunk".

Kognition is out of commission at the moment - also, they only make inserts for Time Attack competition cars - so he said..

Kognition makes probably the best carbon stuff for our cars I have seen.

I had a few little things for my 14, and now a couple for my 13.

Maybe one day he will make the roofs again, but finding a 240 owner willing to pay for quality is like finding a great marriage type girl in a bar.

i dont think its a good idea to have a roof that is made from carbon fiber. The shell of the car should be left intact. i mean do you really want to something that provides so much structural ridgity to be made of CF?

idk just my .02

^what about verts?might be alright with a roll cage and strip off the outer sheet metal and replacing it with CF leaving the main shell on it.i was really thinking about CF doors way back but decided against it. you'd be Fooked in any kind of side impact, and CF splinters like a mofo if anyone had experience unglazed CF edge >.< would do it in a heartbeat if I had cash

I'm sorry, are you under the impression that cf is weak? All these little ricer fanboi hoods are really screwing up peoples perceptions. A cf layer on a fiberglass hood is not cf, its fiberglass. A dry carbon roof with triple weave would be lighter and stronger than stock... in any case you would still want a full roll cage because it has less flex. Kognitions roof was 6lbs IIRC and it replaced a 50lb roof and a 75llb sunroof assembly. He took 119 lbs off the highest part of his car.Seriously sometimes its like noone has any idea anymore. I don't think Kognition would make you a roof anyways... too much liability on a street car. Just find a base shell, take the roof off, and put it on your car. The roof is connected at the 6 pillars but its removable with heat and know how, just don't bring a wrench and expect it to come off

verts and targas need alot more chassis bracing to be stable with a removable (or partially removable) roof.

im not saying carbon fiber is weak but the car was engineered a particular way for a reason. why would you want to hack apart something nissan spent years desigining that is so critical the the cars structural integerity just to save a few pounds?

CF hood trunk fenders etc are more practical, if they do break, you can replace them alot easier than a freakin roof

You would replace the roof for the given points above. Less weight at the highest point = lower center of gravity. I'm considering this modification to my car.

In regards to structural integrity... oh well, that's what the roll cage is for. It's not going to lose much, if any, structural integrity with a properly installed cf rood.

p.s. the 240 was engineered as a street car. Mods like a cf roof are designed for running fast laps on a road course.
