Eh.... Sorry to burst the bubble on this one but that guy (whomever he may have been) certainly must have been in poor health to begin with or severely retarded.

If he was literally sucking down the fumes through a straw then he would have died but that could be said of ALL welding.

What makes Galvanized Steel unique is Zinc. Zinc poisoning doesn't kill that quickly unless again you're retarded.

The guy in question possibly passed out from low blood pressure after standing up and died in the hospital of complications related to or unrelated to the Zinc Poisoning.

Good stuff. I wish I had a welder.....I just bought an eBay kit, but If I had a welder I would do this for sure. There is a difference between, "look at this $600 exhaust I bought" and, "dude, look what I made." I have much more apprechiation for things like that.

Yeah Thanks!

If I had a bender and some stainless piping I would make a nicer one but DIY means different things at different stages of life.

Right now DIY for me revolves around a welder, chop saw and the Kobalt tool set I have.

So I appreciate the compliments and criticism from everyone and hopefully we will take time to build on ideas and contribute.

Eh, I'm not really a fan of fluxcored wire feed welding, I prefer gas. I wont own a welder that does'nt run off of 220 either. I love my Hobart 185 amp mig, works great.

220 is overkill on anything I have done.

I can weld half inch steel with a single pass on each side with my Hobart 135. I can do flux core and gas. I have both and don't prefer to waste the gas on things that aren't visual. If I need a weld to 'look' good then I'll put on the gas.

I always use gas, I want everything, seen or unseen to "look" good. I just prefer 220, just incase I get into some really heavy stuff.

I hear ya. For the average guy looking to get started they just shouldn't feel like they 'need' a 220 or a gas welder.

A flux core 110v will be plenty. The key is amperage... If they try and skimp out and get a 90 Amp they will quickly become disappointed. I don't 'think' a 90 AMP welder could have done the Gears properly.

I think spending $400ish brand new is a good expectation. I think I spent $300ish on mine used???

hell I started with a cheapo 75$ old lincoln stick welder, but gas is nice, especially if you want to do alot of visible work.

About 3 weeks ago I got my self a Miller 140.

I have only used gas because I most of my welds will be visable.

I tend to be a cheap-stake but I wouldn't buy anything cheaper than miller

Hobart and Miller are owned by the same company.

I typically hear pretty good think but I always think that lincoln is a little over-rated. All their machines feel really cheap to me but home depot/sears/lowes will always service them for you so its a plus.

My hobart has a miller gun. I would say my Hobart welds as nice as the lincoln i used once.

Will be one of the best purchases you've made Razi, having a welder is GREAT.

I feel like it might be.

I have no clue what I should purchase though, I'll most likely be just doing small jobs, so I won't need a powerful welder yet.

Find a Miller dealer local to you, and then haggle them for awhile.

I went to the Miller website and found that there are 3 shops nearby me.

http://www.airgas.com/

One of them being AirGas West, and they are only 2 miles from my house. On Miller's site it says they are authorized for 'Online Sales', so I'm not sure if they carry it in their store so I can drive to them and buy one.I'll check them out.

Now I just need the money. :P

The Miller 140 is better than the Hobart 135 (duh...) BUT it's not worth the added cost.

As said earlier Hobart and Miller are made by the dame people. Hobart is not 'CHEAP'... they come with great warranties too.

I would not get the Hobart without continuous voltage adjustment.

the hobart 135 has it set up so as you increase amperage it automatically increases wire speed, I wouldnt buy the 135, I like choosing my own setting.

I have both wire speed control and voltage control... so I'm not sure what you guys are talking about.?.?.?
