could u elaborate on the butterflys please? is it like the one in the throttle body? what would secondary butterflys affect any how? wouldnt it be better not to have them? and finally, no one has answered the original question, getting upgraded cams, and s13 (91-93) camshafts will allow the s14 ka24de to rev up to 6900, possibly a bit higher? and finally then, how would u cut off the rev limiter? would installing a new tach just bypass it? (any links or info on how to installa tach? THANKS!!

...what about chassis changes to the s14? supposedly i was told that the S14 has a different fuel tank placement, either, over the rear axle *(mid) vs. the s13's being after the axle.

also, nissan did away with the AIV box on the S14-KA. bah. :rolleyes

Ka engine has better performance in midrange rpms and rev it to 7k will not give you anything besides noise.

let me worry about what happens at 7k ! hehe i have plans to make more power up there, but before i can experiment, i need to get it to rev there safely! so whats the deal? how do i do that?

p.s.s whats the AIV box?

I just talked with my mechanic friend and he told me that it might not be safe to rev 7K for prolong time. However ocasional 7K could be o.k. But again its all Iffy. Cams change could help.To be safe do more research.

We've already established that revving it up to 7000 RPM with stock camshafts will do nothing for performance, unless your engine is tuned for max power around there. People like Esper and me would be revving it up there not for power, but so we could hold out a gear longer (ie 2nd gear), hit 60 in second, and lower our 0-60 times (me anyhow).

why do you really care about 0-60 being effected by a gear shift? its not like your car is gonna be featured in car & driver or anything

I guess it's personal preference. To me anyway, 0-60 is a big indicator of true performance as well as a source of bragging rights. In my group of friends we almost always talk in terms of 0-60 this, 0-60 that...it's just nice to know that if you could hold out 2nd and hit 60 w/o the gear change that my time would be decreased by quite amount (to probably around 5.3).

The stock KA24DE can be revved to 7200 safely, you will need a balanced rotational assembly and new valvetrain to go higher safely. But as was mentioned 4000 times already, without cams there is no need to rev the motor. The toque curve already falls off at 5500 and higher. So head work and cams will be in order to really maximize higher rpms.

Quote »whats the AIV box
Air Induction Valve - the big hunk of junk hanging off the stock airbox with a pipe that goes to the exhaust. Injects fresh air into the exhaust stream and through the cat to help clean up emissions.

Quote »the intake runners are different as well in the respect that the s14 dosent have any secondary butterfly valves, correct me if im wrong, im not exactly sure
You are correct my S14 does not have the secondary butterflys. But my original post about the differences was applicable to the engine internals.

Quote »could u elaborate on the butterflys please?
From what I've heard, removing them may net you a little top end. They are sort of like the TB butterfly, but upstream in the intake runners themselves. Supposed to help tumble the air into the valves for better combustion. Dunno if it actually works well tho.

Quote » and finally, no one has answered the original question, getting upgraded cams, and s13 (91-93) camshafts will allow the s14 ka24de to rev up to 6900, possibly a bit higher?
Just getting a JWT ECU will allow the S14 to rev to 7000. It still won't make power over 5500 - but it'll rev up there. Adding the JWT (or similar) cams will allow the car to make power AND rev up there.

Even with the cams and ECU, there's little reason to rev to 7k. Shift points were discussed in this thread . Overview: even with the JWT ECU and cams, shift points are redline 1-2, 2-3, 6500 3-4, 6200 4-5.

Quote »...what about chassis changes to the s14?
A little off topic - but yeah, fuel tank on S14 is under the rear seats (under trunk in S13).

My 0-60 was 5.70 seconds as recorded by a g-tech. However, I am horrible at launching my car (lot of power in first gear), so with a professional driver I'm sure the times could be a lot better. Also, when I did the time, not only were my tires spinning in first/second, but my clutch was spinning as well (pretty badly too). I have since upgraded to an ACT street clutch, 11 pound Fidanza flywheel, ASP aluminum crank pulley, and lighter wheels that save ~45 pounds of rotational mass all around (without compromising tire performance). Therefore, if I were more experirenced launching it, along with the new clutch/flywheel/pulley/wheels, and the fact that I would NOT have to do a third gear shift at 58 mph (which I had to do in the original test), I think it's safe to say I could get it down to a bout 5.3 seconds.

All that I know is that my car is faster than a 350z, an s2000, the older WRX's, and nipping at the heels of the new one, and that makes me happy :)

I think I understand what your trying to say.. Will upgraded cams allow you to rev your motor to 7000RPM safer than stock cams? If thats the question then the answer is no. Upgrading the cams to a larger lift, longer duration cam will increase the probability of valve float at high RPM, If you dont upgrade other parts of the valvetrain to handle it. (ie. stiffer valve springs, lighter retainers/valves. The larger cams will help the choking sensation of the stock intake/exhaust system, and maybe help minimize the power loss after 5000RPM. Of course you might loose some in the low end due to increased overlap.

$730 shipped w/o tires. In immaculate condition. God bless ebay. I was in search of such wheels for about 2 months. They're exactly what I wanted, and you can't find Work 3 piece wheels for less than $350 a piece, if you can find them at all.

I don't see why you guys want that 7000 rpm so bad. Being a former integra owner i was used to taking it to the red every shift. With the S13 I actually went from 16.0 to 15.8 by shifting at 6 grand instead of 7. Let's not forget this is a truck engine.

"I don't see why you guys want that 7000 rpm so bad."

Why do you people keep asking this question?!? NO one is asking for a justification to rev it up to 7000, theyre asking IF it can be done. And if you read the posts, people like me would rather hold a gear out and lower 0-60 times than have to shift into third at 6500. It's far from a truck engine with proper tuning---

MarkEmark here is a pic of the s13 gauge cluster.http://thetweakshow.com/photos...4.JPG Great topic, my car sees heavy autocross duty ( the reason why I have it), I can recall several times i've "bang'd" off the limiter for 5 or more seconds.

thanks, you just verified that the s13 redlines are 6900--so if i didnt have my damn rev limiter, I wouldn't feel bad about bringing mine up to 6900. 400 more RPM will do me nicely.

yeah i would like to hold out a gear longer.... but another question, once i add the camshafts, wouldnt the engine still bounce off the 6300 redline?? how do i let it go up to 6900?? is there a rev limiter to remove?

MARKEMARK- you have the pdm camshafts and JWT ECU right? how much HP doe sthe JWT add and what other positive benefits does it yeild? and did u change your camgears? and are u gonna remove your rev limiter or is there a way to adjust it to make it higher? thanks again!!

I just have the camshafts, no ECU :( If I were to get an ECU, it would be the JWT one mated to SR injectors bc my car is turbocharged. So no, i can't rev past 6500 rpm unless I had that ECU remap. You can only rev past the limiter (6500 on mine--i'm surprised yours is 6300, i've brought mine up to 65 plenty of times) if you have an ECU remap that takes out the portion of the computer that dictates the redline (I think...) Plus, such an ECU would take off that bloody speed governor--mine now has more than enough power to go past 120, but it cant..

No, i didn't change the cam sprockets--I don't know if there even are companies that make adjustable cam sprockets for our cars--if anyone knows of any, let us know (links, prices, etc).

I wouldn't use the JWT ecu with just N/A, unless you have at least CAI/H/E/cams/head work...unless you really only want it to remove the rev limiter/speed governor.
