It happened again, I got it replaced the Entire CVT Gear Box replaced because of this piece of rubber that gets caught and causes it to stick/jam up. I'm having trouble switching from Manual to Drive.

I'm on my way out to Nissan. My question is what happens AFTER the Warranty. Will I have to pay for this?!?! Isn't this a Design Flaw?

The part that moves when you move the shifter??? I have had no problem with that...how does it get pushed in? Do you have a picture of the FAILED piece?

What piece of rubber are you talking about? If it's the black flat piece to cover up the tracks, it's not a part of your transmission, it's just a plastic piece under that plastic. Circle the part you're talking about on your picture!

What is a design flaw is the driver side seat warmer that's under the e-brake handle...

yea threadstarter, what piece you talking about? the only issue i've had is that when i do occasionally slip up and shift it to manual mode, it never goes to manual mode, but i believe that's more of a safety feature than anything.

Not another it's "an Automatic" bash.

Sorry, used my BOLD to take the pics. Here it is. Apparently, after the Warranty is over I will have to pay for this Piece of s***!

I'm not sure what's causing this.

It looks like it sticks up a little bit, so when you slide from D into M a piece gets caught and doing that again and again breaks it off.

I really think they are trying a scare tactic with you...they are saying "Stop F-ING BREAKING THIS PIECE!" and to do that through terror they say "we had to replace $2000 worth of stuff...in 2 years, that bill will be on you!" when really it was a $50 piece of plastic that is just a b-tch to get to and replace.

^ LOL Exactly.

When I talked to them, I got that tone. Actually, trying to blame me when all I'm doing is switching it back/forth!?!? Honestly, I don't know why the piece is there too.

When the Warranty is over, I will probably just ripped it off. I hate the Design, Nissan should take note from Acura, Lexus.

You're...no help no help no help...a motherf**king basher. Click back on your browser and the leave this thread the hell alone.

If he has a feature in his car that isn't working properly which he would like to use, what is it to you? Don't say its b/c you're a Nissan parts 'rep'.

Anyway, I have the same problem. I can put it in manual mode but after shifting up it won't go back to the middle. So when I won't to down shift I have to move the sick back down and then down shift. It's not that big of a deal but it's pretty annoying. I'm going to call my dealer.

U all realize what CVT means right. Continuously variable transmission. There are no gears to change and the car is an automatic. Whats gonna happen when your warrantee runs out in 3 years and 36000 miles? Who cares, its 3 years away, and you can trade it in for something new.

The car has an automatic shifter, put it in D and drive it. I also have a 2003 altima SER, auto, I get in, put it in D and go, no need to shift an automatic. Thats why its an automatic.

it happened to me once or twice, all you gotta do is sort of pull one of the rubber pieces up to were its straight and not, like bent down and making contact with the other one.... it happen when my brother took my car and when i was being stupid and decided to touch the rubber and then it bent in lol just yank on the top rubber so it doesnt hit the bottom rubber and it should be fine (a 2 min fix in my opinion)

in this pic you can see the rubber piece getting caught into the other. just pull the top rubber piece up to were its straight instead of bent down jamming into the other rubber piece.

I've never had a problem with this and I've got over 26000 km on my car, always driven in manual mode. I can't believe a dealer tried to suggest that they had to replace the transmission because of it! I'd find another dealer - those guys are a$$hol&s!

And to blacksrjdm... some of us had no choice - we couldn't get a MT... and others would just like to use a feature the car came with and should work.... so chill man.

I don't think I even have that piece. Looks like that's an extra... I'll check again today when I'm doing my FatMat.

Not to mention a 6mt may not be practical as a daily driver depending on where you live. I know im not commuting from suffolk county to nyc every day in traffic even with a v6(gas mileage) let alone a manual transmission.

same reason that I got the CVT, but, I still dont understand the "shift mode" It doesnt make me feel like I have more control like a real MT does

Of course it doesn't feel like a MT! But it does give you more engine braking under downshifting, and it eliminates that annoying constant droning that drives me totally nuts with CVT!

if you don't feel like you have more control over your car in manual mode, then you aren't driving it correctly.... when accelerating from a roll, there's a huge difference in how fast the RPM's hit redline in CVT vs manual mode.. and that can mean all the difference in the world when trying to change lanes quickly..

you're in b-more, so not a lot of mountains, but in Cali.. driving on canyons and on mountainsides , downsifting in manual mode gives you much more control over the car.... I didn't buy my CVT to do this because frankly, the manual mode in most other vehicles suck (including the 2.5 A/C and A/S)... but its a completely different feeling in the 3.5.... speaking from experience since I own both

honestly, you just sound like a hater, I second the sentiments of folks above asking what the phuck you're doing in the thread if you're just gonna talk s***... please take your 20 year old 30 lbs of boost red top 240 sx and turbo out of the thread if you don't have anything positive to add
alphapig wrote:Did someone buy a CVT to use manual mode?
see the above post about the difference between the qr25 and the VQ35 regarding CVT performance in manual mode... night and day difference, so we wouldn't expect you to understand why we use manual mode

haha, I have done it more times on accident then on purpose. I like to rest my hand on it, and some times I have hit bumps or taken a corner quickly and knocked it into Manual.

I have never owned a manual, so when I do move it over, I typically end up forgetting and then the engine revs really loud and I just move it back to drive...
