Hey everybody, just wondering if anybody knows of a exhaust system that will make a little 4 cylinder sound real deep like a V8. I love the deep sound you can get out of a V8. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Roby

well... the Z24 is deeper than a normal 4 cyl is to begin with... so its never gonna sound like a honda no matter what you do

custom systems are always the best choice, just choose a size and muffler and have it all welded up.... my muffler is technically just a resonator from magnaflow and it sounds nice and deep... nothing like a V8 tho

one thing you can do to add a little more grunt to it is have an unequal length header made... this is how subarus get their tone

I wonder how the pacesetter longtube headers make the truck sound?

A member of another website I visit ran a "normal" size pipe (2 inches or something like that) to a glass pack, and then a 4 inch tailpipe from the glasspack out. He welded the pipe onto the body of the muffler, and said it has a deep tone.

Unfortunately, I haven't heard a sound clip, but I can imagine it would be deep with the sound resonating around in that humongous tube. Back pressure would still be there because the smaller tube is still part of the equation.

Pezi has a cool idea with the unequal length header, that sounds completely logical that it would make a difference in sound. Whether it has a performance increase over an equal length, I really don't know. Subaru's are also boxer engines, so that might have an effect on their sound.

The rolling burble associated with v8's is actually caused by the uneven firing that all cross-plane v8's have. Inline 4cyl is even fire (180-180-180-180) <--- in crank degrees, so that v8 sound is not 100% possible.

There is a cross-plane 4cyl in the 2009 Yamaha R1 that sounds like a v8, because it has a 90-90-90-270 (big-bang) firing order. So far, I haven't heard of another company making a cross-plane 4cyl.

Here, you can listen to Pezi's truck for yourself. The last I read he has a Pacesetter header and 2.5 with resonatorhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9c-sYwdPZs

a glasspack isn't much different than a resonator like i have.... mine from magnaflow is simply a straight through pipe with holes cut in it with the packing around it

it has the pacesetter headers on it... catless... and then the resonator.... 2.25" piping

as far as the unequal length header... it actually has less advantage than an equal length... but it is what gives subies their sound.... they make equal length headers for subies and they sound like normal cars so that kinda throws the boxer theory out... although subies still don't sound like hondas or anything with the equal length header on

I am running 2" pipe with a Gibson glass pack (off a Silverado SS) and a resonator tip I got from Orielly's auto.

I previously had a Cherry bomb turbo muffler (not glasspack) and the same resonator tip.

I kind of liked my first setup better, but they sound very close.

I think a cherry bomb glass pack and a resonator tip is what you are after.

The Cherry bomb will give you enough back pressure so you will not get to much of the crackle when you ket off the gas. I will try to post a vid of my exhaust.

I ran my exhaust all the way to the rear, but there is only 2 foot of exhaust after the glass pack. I had to run the exhaust a little bit different than stock since it is off the shelf parts, and clamped.

That can give you more interior resonance. At cruising speeds is where this can suck really bad, especially if you are driving with a headache or hangover.

I lived with boomy resonance for 2 years on my old naps-z D21. I had a thrush turbo where the stock cat was, and no tailpipe. It exited under the cab/bed, and I had no idea at the time how much different it could have been, until I drove my current truck, which has a full length pipe.

I'm talking about sound pressure waves, so if your truck can break the speed of sound, this won't matter one bit.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My exhaust. I know it's not a naps-z, but it's pretty close.

Homemade camera mount under the rear bumper, acceleration video, has stock cat:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uA3BG87Ilw

its the whole exiting under the vehicle thing... lots of cars run no tailpipe after the muffler... but as long as it still leaves the vehicle its all good

Ricers do not use glasspacks. They are typically used with V-8's They use oversized resonators like the one I have for a tip, aka fart cans.

Project TruckerThe top pic at the last post is a fart can, the bottom one is a tuned muffler.http://www.driveaccord.net/for...64310

Cherry bombs are glasspacks. They don't give the ricer sound that a fart cannon does.

I run a 2.25" 26" long glasspack on my truck, with a 90* bend and a tip I made out of a piece of 2.5" pipe I had laying around. If I felt like gutting the cat it'd sound like some of the trucks posted.

Yea i have pretty much decided that im going to do a cherry bomb. So it will be pretty close to what you did.

I deleted my cat, it sounds so much better and the power gain was awsome. Then agian I still have the stock California emission setup running up front.
