So my G was at the dealership starting Saturday morning for the 11,250 service and warranty work. I was supposed to get it Monday, but the work finally got done late this afternoon. I go to pick up my car, turn it on and the odometer reads 12,300+ miles and I thought to myself that seems kind of high. Not even a mile down the road, I stop at the light and check the reading at the beginning of service which was 12,138. Went back and the manager had already left, I picked it up really close to 6PM, so I took a time-dated picture of the odometer at the dealership.

Is there any explanation or justification for taking my G out for 200 miles?

Seems a bit excessive...what warranty work did you have done?

It was the typical window-making-a-loud-noise-when-rolled-up problem where they have to replace the motor or regulator.

Did you have them do any rattle fixes? They have to drive it for that...but 200 miles is a bit much.

200 miles! Sounds like somebody was driving it back & forth to work. You need to have a word with the service manager, but keep your cool.

Somebody did something, not to happy about it. I sent the service manager an email after trying to leave a voicemail unsuccessfully right when I got home. I just gave him a pretty specific time line of events and asked him to call me after 1 tomorrow with an explanation as to where my car has been and why nearly 200 miles were put on it since Saturday.

In hindsight, I wish I would have looked at the work order right there when I thought the odometer was high and said I wasn't leaving until it was all explained. And of course it was the first time I payed not by debit card for service so I don't have a time-dated receipt as proof of the time of pickup. Hopefully they rung it into the register and have a record of time somewhere, just in case it comes down to it that I need evidence.

The only work done was the 11,250 mi service and the warranty work on the window. I mentioned to him that I was storing it for the winter and its on the work order, but not even that justifies driving it 200 miles. And this is the same manager that told me he was going to look for a spoiler for at cost, I don't think so anymore.

I'll post imediately after the phone call, whether he calls me or I end up calling him.

Ryan, the G scene up here depends on where you are at. If you are in a rich area, you're bound to see a few Gs. But once you get out those areas, you're the only one on the road, which is a pretty nice feeling. For MI, there are 2 parts, the Lower Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula (the LP and UP). The same is going to go with Wisconsin--you won't see one until you get into the cities like Green Bay, Milwaukee, Madison, and the likes because, quite honestly, the rest is the dairy land of the US (Californians-your "happy cows" can stay in California, you will never take away that standing from WI ). I can guarantee that its nothing like it is in Florida though...you are heading to the Midwest where the Big 3 are from and still have a pretty good footing.

That is CRAZY!!!

I dropped my G for the transmission service it was getting 20.5 mpg I picked it up and they had put about 20 miles on it and it was now getting 17 mph!

I did complain about pedal pulse sometimes on braking so I felt the milage was justified. I was a little suprised by the milage change but I thought it could have been left ideling during the transmission flush and fill?

If you don't have a VISA or Mastercard credit card get one. If you already have one get rid of the debit card. You have much more protection on using a credit card rather than a debit card or paying by check for purchases. Read up on differences between the two.Put every purchase you make on a credit card & make sure you pay the bill in full every month on time.

As for the 200 miles it seems high but when I had an intermittent problem with my Air Bag warning light, I had the dealer keep the car for a few days and put over 400 miles on their loaner. I wouldn't get too bent out of shape over 200 miles if they fixed the problem & replaced the gas that they used. Did they at least wash and vacuum you car?

Just go to ebay..... I got one for a friend for 80 bux... 100 OTD lol

It came painted and with the light. It took about 1 hour to install. It came with all that is needed for the install... All you need is a Drill with a sharp bit.

The G's are pre wired for the spoiler light... You just have to connect the wires and then it is done.

I should have taken pictures.

Dude...sux about your car. I'm kinda with Telcoman on this one tho...but I'd definitely get an answer, at least to ease the curiosity. Who know's....maybe if ya ***** enough, they'll hook you up with some goodies

I've got an 03 coupe OEM CF spoiler I'm gonna put on mine. Are there any write-ups anywhere? I know it's basically just drill holes, insert bolts/washers, torque down and you're done. My only concern is getting it lined up just right, and then somehow marking the holes while the spoiler is in position and flush on the trunk. Anyone got any tricks/tips? Or a link to a writeup would be swaeet! I couldn't find one

By the way, the threads are in the spoiler itself, so it bolts up from the inside of the trunk and threads up into the spoiler. Unlike many aftermarket ones...with the raised spoilers and external/visible mounts.

But here's the thing, I didn't have them keep the car, they had to keep the car and I didn't take a loaner on this one. The work on the window was being done between the times of 3:45 and 5:30 on Tuesday and I went to pick it up afterwards. None of the service being done warranted my car being driven 190 miles. The window, all they had to do was roll it down, roll it back up a couple of times to make sure it worked and the noise was gone...its a pretty simple repair.

Sounds kind of Ferris Buellerish!!

I have a friend that drove a Mercedes S Sedan. He took it in for service and then went to lunch that same day and actually saw his car in the parking lot at the restaurant. He went in and found three of the service techs having lunch, with his keys right there on the table in plain sight.

He demanded the keys to the car right there on the spot and then left them there to find their way back to the dealer from lunch. Hilarious!!

We of course did not have lunch and I immediately followed him to the dealership for what I knew would be an explosive confrontation. (and it was) All three service guys were fired on the spot upon returning from lunch. He also had personal phone calls within an hour from the Service Manager, Dealership General Manager (both at lunch themselves, but hopefully in their own cars) and Mercedes District Manager all sincerely apologizing for what happened and the oversight of not logging the vehicle properly while on the lot. In addition, he was given a $5M incentive towards a new Mercedes, which he used three months ago when he bought a CLS like mine. (The restuarant incident happened in May 2006).

We were in my car when we found them at the restuarant. The look on his face when he saw a white S class with his own personalized tag on the car was priceless. It took me a minute to figure out what was going on because he was literally speechless. I have never seem my friend so mad in the 20 years I have known him. He literally could have killed someone that day and while it wasn't funny I was still trying not to laugh. Mercedes realized and admitted their fault in it and made it right with him so I commend them for that. But just another classic example of people not doing their job and not paying attention to detail, and of course if you throw in three of the dumbest people on the planet you have a recipe for disaster.

On a side note Mercedes "University" that they send you to for training is not cheap and not easy to get through and these idiots threw it all away as they will never be hired by a MB dealer again.

Moral of the story: After seeing what my friend went through, you can damn well bet I check my mileage before and after service and if I had 200 miles on my car for what you were having done, there would be hell to pay!!

I just figured out what happened. They gave your car out as a loaner.

Thanks for the responses guys, it makes me feel a little bit better in that I don't feel that I'm over reacting. I'm headed to the dealership now, I can't wait until 1 and the phone call.

As in 5 Million? WOW....you sure it wasn't $5k or $5G's

I'd be buying a lot more than a Mercedes with $5M lol

Alright, so. Apparently the service director's dyslexia kicked in when I showed up Saturday because it appears he reversed some numbers. He pulled out the department's copy of the work order and someone wrote down the correct mileage with initials and he showed it to me. And the oil change sticker on the window adds up, too. I still questioned him a little bit and he said he was absolutely positive no one could have driven off with my car because the keys are locked up, there's no way someone could have driven it off to lunch (he said that without me mentioning it, which I thought was ironic after reading J-Owners story) and he went through the process of how things get handled and its highly improbable that someone could have beaten the system. He had this happen to him at another dealer, in which he fired the guy, and he's worked to prevent it from happening again. Its a good thing I went in because he didn't get my email this morning. I believe the guy because you should have seen his face when I told him what was going on and he immediately stopped everything he was doing. So, we're all good now. GAME ON!

To clarify.....yes it was a $5,000 incentive. Sorry.

I am a Banker and in Banking lingo Thousands would be $5M and Million would be $5MM. At least that is how we express it on the commercial lending side of the bank. I haven't used a K for thousands in about 10 years.
