Sorry to disappoint you, it actually disappoints me because I wanted some free stuff haha. I had a couple of things in mind.

Glad it turned out to be nothing! I always write down my mileage before bringing it to ANYONE!

I think techs "test driving" cars to lunch is more common that it should be. Had a late 90's I30 tailgate me into the Wendy's drive-thru the other day with a tech in the seat and the service tag dangling from the mirror. I have seen the same thing in other Qs from time to time. Hopefuly it's just a used car they're "reconditioning" but I have my doubts.

No, what happened was I dropped my car off on Saturday, I got the work order estimate with the mileage reading on it at 12,138. I was gone all weekend and didn't get my car back until Wednesday (I know, I said Tuesday before...don't ask) so when I picked it up and saw the odometer above 12,300 I felt it was high because I remembered the 12,138 on the work order so I went back for an explanation. The manager showed me their copy of the work order and someone handwritten the actual mileage on it--the 3 and 1 were transversed on the work order.

ok so you said the 3 and 1 were in the wrong order, which would have made the mielage 12318 instead of 12138 in the first place correct........then when you picked up your car, how was it then at 12300.......the mielage cant go down ? i think something is not right there

Everything's good, I said either "12,300+" or "above 12,300".

I've made it a habit to photograph the section of the car being worked on and other things before I take it to get it worked on. I then e-mail the shots or video to myself as evidence. I've run into this a few times over the years, so am a bit paranoid. The cost in terms of time and money is almost nothing-- saving you headaches, giving you peace of mind and having ready-made evidence can be priceless!

I am happy to hear that it was an honest mistake. I actually ran across this site looking for an explaination of a heater issue I am having with my G35 Coupe~ and stumbled across this interesting dramatic thread.

My story goes like this, my husband is a doctor and not gifted mechanically at all, therefore I am thankful and reliant on those "service techs" who are there to work on my car whenever I need it. I actually chose the infiniti vs. benz due to the customer service at the dealership I purchased from.

As far as I am concerned, if I drop my car off for service, and they do drive it to Wendy's (or even on the interstate for a ride) ~ Who cares? Just watch out for the cop's ... I have had my share of tickets and don't wreck my . Continuing on... I have insurance on the vehichle and if anything happens to it the dealership has liability. This entire thread has scream of Arrogance. Without these guys/gals our "little G35's" would be all broke down on the side of the road with CD error messages, heaters that won't blow heat, windows that rattle, and whatever else problems cars are going to have.

One of the joys I recieve from my "little red sports car" is the conversation starters I have with people "wowing" over my car, not because I am "better than them" but the joy I get from people!

Spread some kindness, I would never want to get anyone fired (a little harsh- they make in one week what many of us make in a day). "What goes around~comes around!"

Thanks fellas~ Have a blessed day!

Welcome to NICO

I'm with you. Well said!

If my G was in for service and the tech put 20 or 50 miles on it & took it up to 80 or 100 MPG I wouldn't give a crap. If he told me he tested it & it was fine, well thats what we are all paying over $100/hour for.We want our vehicles to perform well & if the Infiniti tech wants to test it out SO WHAT!

You are a very trusting man Telcoman.

Like I said before, a tech totaled a new cobra at our local Ford dealership taking it out and 'testing' it.

What if the tech takes it out to test the tire traction. See how long they spin before they hook up. I guess I'm just not as trusting. Probably a fault I have. I'll try to be more trusting in the future. just my 02 cents

I would not make a big deal if there was a reason. Say they had to take my G out to see where the airleak was. That's fine. But take out for no reason..hm .. As I suggested before for Beencooker I would go and ask the key of the tech guy and the service manager and take their car out and beat the crap out of them. Roll back do some donuts in the parking lot and tell them we are good now. Hand the keys back with a huge smile on my face.

I know I am such a prick.

Perhaps its my age? I'm insured, the dealer is insured. If they totaled my G I have their loaner until they replace my vehicle. Testing a vehicle and abusing a vehicle by just spinning tires are two entirely different issues. If I found out a tech was abusing my vehicle, I too would probably make the argument to the service manager that he/ she was too imature for the job. Taking out a customers vehicle for a 20 mile test drive up to 80-100 MPH on a lightly traveled freeway after working on it, no problem for me.

I honestly didn't think I'd ever see this thread again. There is a difference between testing it and just taking it out for an extended period of time. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who wouldn't be upset thinking their car was driven for 200 miles no matter the car, that's like a 3 hour drive at 70 MPH. What is there to test for 200 miles and 3 hours? I don't think its a matter of arrogance, but a matter of respect for another's property, at least that's what it was for me. And probably the fact that I haven't let anyone drive my car besides my brother, who only had to move it so he could leave (and then I told him happy birthday he's nuts about cars like I am). But of course none of it really happened, so...anyhow.
