Hi guys

My brother-in-law has an old datsun 1966 520 all original but in rough shape that i would like to buy from him as a restoration project. It is the pickup with the single headlights and as i have read online they are quite rare as to the versions with twin headlights. Does anyone know more about this and if they are really rare?

Thanks alot in advance guys

Single lights for a 65 and 66 sounds about right. Newer 520s, like late 66 and up have pairs (twins) I believe. Nothing special, rare or valuable about any of it as far as I know. It's just how they were sold those years. I think you'll have a nice D in the center of the grill for a 66. Check back later and maybe someone more into this truck has further information on this particular detail.

I like them. I say it's a neat ride and you should get it and have some fun making it nice again.

Hi

Thanx for the welcoming ☺ i can take some pics and upload them if i knew how hehe ive actually never posted on forums before. Hjs plans for the pickup is to push it down a hill and into a river so i will see if he is willing to sell it or just give it away if possible.

Edit: it still has the gear lever up top by the steering wheel as to on the floor like all of them i see on google.

Save it from the river! It has 3 on the tree then? Neat!

We have a how to post pics article somewhere. I don't use photobucket because I don't want to create an account. There are other sites that don't require accounts. All are basically the same. Upload image. Get embedment url, post that here between the leading and trailing img brackets.

Feel free to give me your straight forward thoughts on it and if it is worth saving. The only bad rust it has is along the left side of the bottom fender and on the back someone has patched two places which is alittle rotten but other than that its just surface rust that you can sand down. I also see it was manufactured in my home country of south africa.

Thanks alot and i hope the pics show

It's right hand drive!? What side of the road are cars driving on in South Africa?

Is it worth saving? That up to you! I see quite a bit to tear down, clean up and put back together. You'll need time and a space to work in, along with bit of money. It looks quite do-able to me.

We drive on the correct side of the road hehe no im just kidding, we drive on the left hand side of the road.

It would be a long process and what has made it worse is i found out that it doesnt have any papers (sad) the owner passed away before he could get the papers and this being South Africa he has tried for years to get papers as our government is slow. And after 4years if you dont pay your annual lisencing your car gets removed from the system.

So i dont think itll be worth it (bumbed)!!!

That is to bad, what you have there is a rare truck here, it has the early grill and appears to have the early glove box handle.
We only received floor shift models in the USA, I have an early model though with the same grill/handle, but mine was pretty beat up so I made a custom truck out of it.

Yes and registering it and all the procedurea will cost a tonne of money. That is a real awesome looking truck wow! The older cars had so much more personality and can do so much with them. What a shame that its just gana rust away now.
thanks for the info buddy and keep trucking!

This information is not correct. I own a 66 520 with a single headlight on each side and years ago ownned a 65 520 with a single headlight on each side.

1967 and 1968 520 had 2 headlights on each side, and late 1968 the 521 was introduced with 2 headlights on each side.

My build threads on my 1966 520. Ratsun is most complete.

You didn't correct any of the information I provided, just called it incorrect. I'm not insulted, I'm curious. Can you specify?
